8 Million Kinects Sold
Yeah, it's definitely a big success. Sounds about right, it's an add-on for a console that plenty of people have already, you don't need to buy extra controllers or anything like you would for the PS3 or Wii, it comes with a game and everything you need for $150. And it was promoted as the hot toy of the holiday season. Good on Microsoft. That thing has a ton of problems still, but good on them for selling a big ol' box of potential.
" I'm now interested to see if Microsoft will be pushing for all games published and/or developer internally to include Kinect support as a standard feature. "I hope not for this generation at least, it is an accessory for a console that is a huge hit but 8/50 million does not, to me mean they need to mandate support
Yes. I have one for U.S. and Japan, both count. It's not a very good statistic for determining the activity or success of PSN. And, having a PSN doesn't mean activity on it, whereas Microsoft count of Gold XBL members is a good indicator of activity.
" What does it mean to be a PSn member, i have multiple accounts on my machine, are each of those considered a psn member? "
As far as Kinect, I'm not surprised how easily people have bought into the product. Personally, it's gotta do a heck of a lot more before I even consider it. No matter how nice Dance Central looks, it's not worth $200 just to play a single game.
guy from Bloomberg talked to a guy at MS after the show. http://twitter.com/dinabass
its 8 million shipped to stores but MS say they have beat there 5 million sold to customers estimate. its just PR being PR.
still HUGE numbers tho... and more and more I am afraid for the future of gaming... I dont wanna waggle. :(
" @RockAction: I think there will be more intergration into games rather then make new games for it. "
Hopefully, if thats the case then i'd probably buy one, if i had that kind of money lying around (better spent on a ps3 personally) i'd get one if it had integration, even subtle things, but if its more immersive it would be beneficial
" RIP Move "
i dont think so, maybe in sales numbers so far, but if anything this really shows that Wii wasn't a fad and motion gaming is a large part of contemporary gaming and gaming in the future, so these numbers benefit everyone really - well maybe not hardcore, but thats just until a good developer really uses it well, or uses it as integration rather than immediate control
" @Hamz said:Better than the $400m they put into WP7. I swear I'm seeing more and moer Bing and WP7 advertisement in TV shows. It's getting f'n annoying." Just goes to show that Microsoft's investment of $500 million into the marketing and advertising budget for Kinect has paid off. "youre not serious... well at least it was a good investment for the company. "
" That is fucking unreal. They've almost sold a fifth of their user base on Kinect in 60 days. I can't say I'm pleased, but maybe this is incentive for developers to actually make something interesting for it. "Two words: Dance Central
Always count on Harmonix. I do hope some more great games come soon though. Can't play DC forever, afterall.
" Well it looks like it was a success in terms of sales now. Also at CES Microsoft announced there are now 50 million Xbox 360's sold and 30 million XBL members. Also Sony has 60 Million PSN members! "psn accounts made on psp count too. and believe it or not theyre are tonnnns of people doing that
