Kinect Confirmed To Be Top Selling Holiday Product - Ellen Plug

#1 Posted by KaosAngel (13765 posts) -

With the news of Oprah giving away Kinect, and making all of America's MILFs to buy one next week, Kinect has yet again been confirmed to sell more millions.

Ellen has been given a Kinect and loves it!  Now all the liberals will buy it up.

Bitches (and Whores), I'm proud to be a gamer and I am glad that this is the future of the next generation.

You know, although I feel like Kinnect will probably fail horribly, I hope that there are creative developers who do make the killer app for those who want a AAA Game that every "Hardcore" gamer wants. Sadly, we don't have any except those who want to dance that will come out at launch.

Look at the Wii for example. Lots of cheap waggle family games but some awesome games here and there. Give it time I say.

Kinect makes me want to self harm.

Jim Sterling said that he has a feeling lots of people will buy a Kinect without realizing they need a 360.

Doesn't the Kinect box have a big ass 360 logo?  I don't think anyone would be that silly...

Please let this thing fail, please let this thing crash and bring realization to Microsoft they need to cater to the Hardcores still.

as for kinect, just because ellen plugged it doesn't mean shit, dude; or Oprah, for that matter.

Oh no, the problem is that if Kinect sees success Microsoft will dedicate further resources towards it. Then we will see less games that cater to hardcore.

Yes, very awesome.

I'm just stoked for Harmonix that they got the plug on the show. Very awesome.

I love how Microsoft is resorting to stuff like this to sell their product. Nintendo didn't have to do this with Wii, and Sony didn't do it with Move.

I should buy a Move set just to stick it to Microsoft. But I'd rather spend the money on something I'd use on more than just a remake of No More Heroes (especially since I already have Wii version of that game).

Ellen and Oprah are two of the most watched shows in North America right now. Ellen caters to a much larger variety of people than Oprah does, but I think Oprah has more viewers. But still, the fact that SO many people seen Kinect (not only advertisements outside of the show, but actually IN the show) means that it got a hell of a lot of exposition. Like it or not, especially in this time of the year - that DOES equal sales.

I effing love Ellen. Since she loves to dance, this is a perfect fit for her :P

Ellen is so adorable that I want this to do well just because of her slight involvement in this.

...ah gamers and their lack of extended, real-world perspective.

See see.
Prime example!

All I know is this:

I showed my wife one Dance Central trailer and she's been excited ever since. She is now (literally upstairs from me RIGHT NOW) re-arranging our entire living room to accommodate Kinect so she can get her dance on.

On the other hand, I really don't know what kind of percentile we fall into. She's not a gamer but she's enjoyed a number of games in the past. We were both super addicted to WoW for two years and she's also spent time super hooked on things like SimCity, Black & White and the old Nintendo 64 platformers. She's also incredibly PC savvy, a systems and database administrator by trade.

So I can't be totally sure if this will catch the attention of every housewife out there, but I do wonder about it's potential, and haven't written it off as an obvious failure yet.

#23 Posted by Shadow (4966 posts) -

Great.  Maybe if it sells well enough, someone will make a good game for it that isn't Dance Central.

Not as sad as the people who decide to listen to Kevin Butler, a character, played by an actor, payed by Sony, to make their decision instead :P

#29 Posted by Geno (6479 posts) -

Shit, why do they even bother with trailers anymore, just do this from now on.

#30 Posted by Gamer_152 (13976 posts) -

Microsoft have definitely been doing a good job of getting the Kinect out there and in the eyes of the mainstream. I don't quite understand your pride over this though, essentially what the Kinect is offering is not gaming as we know it and will not not represent the future of what we know as gaming. Unless this is just me being stupid and failing to pick up on sarcasm here the only real reason I can see to be that proud of what the Kinect is doing to the industry is through a hope or belief that the peripheral will help to introduce more people to what we know as gaming in the long-term.

@Gamer_152 think about this, a lot of single women and mums will be on XBL post Kinect.

On the mobile so I can't type it all.

And I remember you being so sure and positive it would change gaming as we know it.

Were you this negative about the Wii too?
Did that kill the gaming scene? Sure it affected it, but don't act like its the end of all time.

I just had a horrifying vision of what would happen if the casual Kinect community met with some of the individuals currently part of the XBL community.

While I couldn't care less about Kinect, I have to give it to Microsoft for being original. I dont like what Sony have done because it's such a blatant wii knock off. Even if it is better than the wii, the originality isn't there. It's the same way I'd rather spend money on something like Mirrors Edge than something like Call of Duty.

#37 Posted by Quacktastic (1066 posts) -

It's like the Wii launch is repeating itself.  Get ready for some shitty games from every company to flood the launch window with garbage to catch the soccer mom train.

I am neither negative nor positive about Kinect.  I also got a Wii at launch, and my 360 broked so I need to buy a new 360 for the Kinect.  I'm just stating that Kinect is gonna sell a lot, I mean...Oprah and Ellen.  Those two say to buy it, millions of people will buy it.  That's good for MS, it'll stop their stocks from being downgraded by firms.

The hardcore gamers have vanished. We are the only ones left. We must breed and repopulate. You can thank Nintendo for this endangerment.

...if you want to play that game, if I remember correctly back in the 90s, Microsoft had something similar to the Eye Toy for Windows.  I'm not one to take sides (unless it's about GT5), but no one is original in this industry anymore (except for Blizzard and/or Valve).

It's weird that the gaming branch of Microsoft knows how to market a product but the software division thinks cheesy television ads are enough.

Considering you've said yourself that you bought Move, everything you're saying is extremely hypocritical.
Whether you like it or not, some people DO like these type of technology and WILL have fun with it.

I don't think somebody who went out and bought one unproven motion controller with no games has any right to bad mouth another piece of tech and label it as the end of gaming.

HAHA!! I can see you now putting down $210 for the accessory and game just to see your girlfriend play it once. Let's look at the better side. She might do this...

@WinterSnowblind: ...I haven't bad mouth'd it.  "Bitches and Whores" is a 4chan meme that GB ended up stealing, and I already stated before I'm buying a Kinect Bundle the week it comes out (on the account that both my 360s broke).  Also, since GT5 got pushed back, I'll end up buying a Kinect game.

I already stated a few times in other threads that I got full intent to pick up the Kinect Bundle.  :|

That would be a brighter side of things.
Luckily my bright-side is more of a sure thing as I'm also getting a newer, bigger TV out of the deal.

God i hate oprah and ellen so much.  But im sure all the mom's who watch these dumb shows will buy it up.  I don't promote them doing this, but it is a very smart business move.

I would like to talk some about Kinect but confidentiality-contract is a bitch :P
