Kinect is a camera and depth sensor-based peripheral for the Xbox 360 that allows users to interact with and play games using their whole bodies, rather than using a standard controller.
Like every internet forum poster or jaded video game journalist, I was quick to dismiss Kinect because there did not appear to be any software that seemed to justify the purchase. That was true up until the moment I saw children playing Kinectimals. In one very brief moment, I understood exactly why Kinect is going to sell a bajillion units and why there will gradually be less and less software designed with people of my age group in mind. Hold me.
I know, right? Because of Kinect every game ever made after it came out is gonna be for kids. No more Call of Duty games, no more Halo games, nothing. Just Kinect games for little kids.
I swear, it's like that thing is sucking the intelligence out of people.

Nothing like having an intimate moment when sharing the lesssons of teabagging other players.
I feel like developers just need to wise up and figure out ways to make interesting software that appeals to broader audiences. And by broader, I don't necessarily mean younger. But somehow I doubt that will happen if the arm-flailing minigame collections that are spearheading Kinect's launch sell abhorrent amounts of copies. However, think about the established demographic of Xbox 360 owners (i.e. not little kids)--it seems like Microsoft and developers working on Kinect supported software will have to cater to them in some way. After all, this project has taken millions upon millions of dollars and tons of time to bring to fruition, you know? They need to make that back somehow, and I don't see that happening by effectively shifting focus away from the people who already own and are actively playing 360s.

The day I felt old was when my sister in law asked if I could drive her and a friend to the friend's house. I'm 27, she is 18 so not a huge age gap but I don't know what it was but I just old. Different story but yeah, weird.
Hopefully Third Party Developers will create a way a game that scream hardcore gamer. Nothing for grown men to connect with unless if you want to pet a digital kitty.

Dont worry TC, the concept of playing with virtual animals will grow on you eventually.
It did occur to me to avoid the kinnect issue, instead of railing I didn't like it. I did come to the realization it was an age, if not a taste preference. And yes, it will may sell well, but I do not think controllers are out the window for a long time.
If I had kids though, my attitude to buy this would be so much different. Casual gaming would get a boost of course also.
