Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days is an upcoming Nintendo DS title revolving around Roxas' birth and his life as an Organization XIII member

Gameplay

The gameplay in Kingdom Hearts DS is similar to the action-RPG style of the previous games in the series, as the game does not use the touch screen like other action/adventure games such as The Legend of Zelda Phantom Hourglass, but rather uses the DS' buttons. For the first time in Kingdom Hearts' history, co-operative multilplayer is being introduced and the player can control either Roxas and any of the other members of Organization XIII, except the 14th member, Xion (who is only featured in this game) and multi-card and Wi-Fi support has been confirmed. It has also been confirmed that the player will travel through similar Disney World's found in the PS2 iterations of the series.. The familiar command menu from previous Kingdom Hearts games returns for this game, although with only three visible commands. There is also a new gauge in the status bar, labeled 'LM'. The purpose of this bar is unknown, although it is probably similar to the drive bar in Kingdom Hearts II.

The control scheme thus far in development is as follows:
L for move camera left, R for move character right, L or R twice resets the camera, D-pad controls the characters movements, X is to scroll through command list (attack, magic, item), A performs the commend, B is jump and tapped twice results in a double jump, pressing any directional button with B results in an air-slide, Y is Reflect Guard and pressed with a direction results in a dodge roll. These controls may be changed in future however as the game is currently still being developed.

Square Enix have confirmed that the player will revisit world's from previous Kingdom Hearts titles. The world's confirmed thus far for the game are:

Although these are the only characters that are 100% confirmed thus far, it is expected that every member of the Organization will be playable.

Multiplayer

As shown in the Tokyo Game Show, the gamers will have to work together and with the help (if necessary) of the AI characters to overcome their enemies. Unlike Chain of Memories' multiplayer, this one won't be 1v1 but all the players facing monsters or bosses, that's why cooperation is needed. The multiplayer experience will have mission based objectives to accomplish and you will be able to control one of the 13 Organization members with each one having different weapons and attacks. The game will also have online communication by drawing symbols on your screen. At this stage, no voice chat was confirmed.

Story

The game explains to the public what happened while Sora was in Namine's memory recovering machine (1 year) and we will learn how Roxas joined the Organisation XIII. Tetsuya Nomura (Director of the project) said that the game's prologue will explain Roxas' birth and from there Roxas' time with the Organization, including his daily duties, relationships with other characters, and how and why he left the Organization will be explored. Additionally, Nomura has stated that Xion, the new Organization member, is extremely important to the plot, and the game will explain why Organization XIII stayed Organization XIII for Kingdom Hearts II (instead of it being Organization XIV). In the Tokyo Game Show 2008 trailer, Xion is seen talking to Riku saying she has a very important friend, and also very importantly, she can be seen wielding a keyblade.

It has also been stated that the opening sequence in Kingdom Heats II Final Mix where Roxas and Axel sitting on the clock tower in Twilight Town will be the ending to the game, and that Xemnas' naming Roxas will be the beginning (which was also a scene in Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix ).
