Today I was eating at Wendy's™ with some friends while we hopped onto our iPhone 4s as we watched two kids dressed like Sora and Riku eat some delicious burgers.  It got me and my friend's thinking, Kingdom Hearts is now Square's most profitable franchise and the Kingdom Hearts team is the only team that is scoring well above the averages in both scores and sales.  The team working on Kingdom Hearts and Versus XIII is literally keeping Square alive for the past decade.   
 
So with that said, they could easily leave Square Enix after they finish Versus XIII and Kingdom Hearts III, and then join up ATLUS or Level-5.  I mean, you would retarded if you didn't hire them.  They have yet to make a bad game...and they have yet to make a game that doesn't sell in the multiple of millions.  I mean, seriously....Kingdom Hearts is now Square's most important franchise without question.   
 
Sure some might say you got Batman and Edios, but they don't count.  It's like the adopted kid, at the end of the day it just doesn't count (no offense to anyone who is adopted or has a sibling who is adopted).   
 
So, let's pretend the KH team left (along with Nomura and Yoko) after KH2, where would Square be today?

Old Chinese saying, "ching zshou yon shi kin no hikari mo nani ga suki yo", or "those who eat in mass, see the light".

Maybe they would have kept being the same old turn based Sqauresoft/Enix that we love? Maybe they wouldn't have delved into much Action-RPGs? 
 
I only sense good things from this theoretical situation. I would have loved Square if they just kept making the same old turn based RPGs.

Wait, the Kingdom Hearts franchise is more profitable than the Final Fantasy franchise?

Ahhhh I remember when Kingdom Hearts used to not suck.

They wouldn't own Eidos and FFXIV wouldn't exist.

@Afroman269: If you count the proper FF games and compare it to the KH games, KH has made more money over the past decade.

Well , making more Final Fantasy games  , also nice games like Xenogears , Parasite Eve (the first one) , Chrono Trigger etc.

As big as Kingdom Hearts is, it's always a side thought to Final Fantasy when I think about Square. I don't know about Square Enix's finance, but image wise, I don't think much would be different.

I think that in one-form or the other, no matter how backwards Square is right now, they would have gravitated toward a more action oriented design over-time.
 
Who knows what Square would be without Nomura, and I say that statement with equal amounts of negative and positive connotations. It is a curious thing to ponder, and my guess is that it would be for better or worse a far different company than it is today. The real question is who would have filled his place, and given the large amount of awkward designers and awkward projects coming out of Square right now, it's kinda scary to think about. 
 
I'm not a fan of Nomura, but at least the stuff his team has released the last decade at Square has been pretty stable.

Why are people treating Nomura like he took the company and created it his own? 
 
Nomura was simply the NEXT BEST THING after Sakaguchi and his team left. He is no messiah that you claim him to be Kaos, he was just the next rung on the ladder.
