Overview
L.A. Machineguns: Rage of the Machines is a 3D on-rails fixed-gun shooter developed by Sega's AM3 division and released by Sega for arcades (using their Sega Model 3 hardware) on December 1998.
It is the sequel to Gunblade NY: Special Air Assault Force and uses the same mounted machine gun controls. Instead of attacking from a helicopter, the players are driving virtual hoverbikes throughout the West Coast of the United States.
It was later bundled with Gunblade NY as part of the 2010 Wii compilation Arcade Hits Pack: Gunblade NY & LA Machineguns. Both ports make use of the Wii's motion controls and support the Wii Zapper peripheral.
Gameplay
The game is based in the year 2025 in Los Angeles where players of the game can drive virtual hoverbikes attacking the enemy (futuristic attacking androids), the other objective of the game is to avoid accidentally killing civilians. The player can select one of the five levels at the beginning of the game all of the levels ranging in difficulty for the more veteran players.
Wii Version
The game was re-released on the Wii in 2010 to work with the Wii's hand-held motion controllers mimicking the original controls of the game. The new game comes with new features such as "Chain Combo" which can allow newer players of the game to obtain even higher scores than the original cabinet. The re-make also features an unlockable weapon toggle and numerous other unlockable secrets such as different shot styles for the unlockable weapons.
