L.A. Noire: How Many Stars (1-5)?
Note: Ignore 'A'. I made a mistake while creating this poll.
I just beat it and would give it a 4. It is definitely one of the most memorable games I played this generation but it has issues. It is repetitive and the ending (though not bad) was a bit stale. I liked it but it certainly wasn't perfect.
5 star, I enjoyed it and i'm replaying missions now. Also the graphics are immersive because they look quite real for a change, rather then crude semi realistic cartoons i'm always used to seeing.
5, since the amazing advancement of the facial animations coupled with successfully creating what feels like the next evolution of adventure games easily warrants a 5.
I liked some of the things the game was going for. I get what it was trying to do, and I'm ok with that. I'd like this type of game if done well. There are specific things that I thought were done exceptionally. But there are too many mechanical issues. Mechanical issues that prevent you from playing "correctly" by the game's own definition if you don't learn to exploit the system. There are also structural design choices that I'm forced to question, though I can understand an argument for.
I don't know whether this is two or three stars to me. I would say when judged solely on it's mechanics and structure, it is a failure. But there are parts that make me want to like it. There are neat tricks here, and the core premise is something I'm really into. But along the way, so many frustrations...
Goddammit. I really like fedoras. Three stars.
4.
Awesome game. Excellent presentation. Clue finding, combat, and especially the chase scenes are very well done. And of course the city is very detailed and the side missions add a pinch of extra depth.
My biggest gripe is with the interrogation system. It's been done better in previous games and could have been refined, but it turned out kinda sloppy. I also don't like the way the game wrapped up, nor do I think that the cases near the end were great. The best part of the game for me was homicide and ad vice.
I find that it's hard for detective/mystery focused games to end well. I thought 999 and Ghost Trick were great but neither of them ended well. The main Ace Attorney games (not AAI) are the only ones of its type to end amazingly, in my opinion. However, Hotel Dusk and Trauma Team (yes, I consider TT a mystery game: the bulk of the game was with Cunningham and Naomi) ended decently.
4... I really, really like it, but there are some things that really irritate me. For instance, the little jingle that plays when you answer a question wrong. It's ruining the game for me. I absolutely hate knowing that I'm going down the wrong path. I try to contain myself, but a lot of the time I just restart and have to do the entire sequence over. I think the game would have a lot more suspense and a feeling of consequence if you couldn't be sure that you judged the suspect correctly. At least if it allowed me to turn it and the other indicators off.
That is my one major gripe with the game, and it's kinda ruining my experience a little. The cases are great, the characters are downright amazing, and I hope this is where gaming is headed in the future.
Oh man, I absolutely agree, and I did the same thing. It's quite the bummer.I really, really like it, but there are some things that really irritate me. 4.5! So I'll round down....cuz it's not perfect.
It's great...but...a little repetitive. My least favorite part being the foot chase sequences probably; too many of those.
The same whining can be levied against this game that was said about games like Heavy Rain tho. A lot of it is cutscenes so I can understand why someone like an above poster would say it's hardly a game.
It's a solid 4 star for me, but if I could it'd be a 3 and a half star.
It's got great cinematics and writing, but the interrogation system isn't all that (doubt/lie can be weird) and the controls are pretty clunky.
Had a decent time with it but getting rid of it now while stores are taking it in for good trade prices.
I would say 4 star i agree it's an amazing game and i love the characters and being in the world but i do find the interrogation system a bit constricting. I feel sometimes you have all the clues and facts together but you still have to go a set way to bust someone that you can still lose out. This is highlighted when even the questions asked don't clue you in. I also felt homicide drags on a bit i knew where the story was going, so it suck to do those cases over and over again (storywise). Other then that the game is great maybe some rough edges here and there but great stuff overall.
