If you’re hot enough for LA Noire to slap down a fiver in advance of any review scores, know that your pre-purchase cash will net you some extra bonus content. Publisher Rockstar Games has revealed a bunch or pre-order deals it has struck with various retailers for its latest game. And, as usual, even if you do reserve the game, you’ll still be feeling like you’re still missing out on content. I guess the good news here is that only two retailers have meaningful, core campaign-related goodies.

Right, so let’s get to it. I’ll list the retailer and then the bonus and then you can react in the comment section if you so desire:

== TEASER ==AMAZON - The Broderick Suit
A nifty blue suit that boosts your fist-fighting abilities.

BEST BUY - The Sharpshooter Suit
A tan suit with a terrible tie that enhances your aim with rifles and pistols.

GAMESTOP - The Naked City Vice Case And The Badge Pursuit
The Naked City is a “bonus case” that can be taken from the Vice Desk. According to the PR, this case deals with the “supposed suicide of a stunning fashion model.” The Badge Pursuit, on the other hand, adds 20 collectible badges to the game’s world. When all are found, you’ll get the Button Man suit, which adds extra ammo for all weapons. Every badge you find also five additional XP points.

TARGET - LA Noire T-Shirt
Here’s a fun and self-explanatory one: Target is offering a LA Noire shirt via the Rockstar Warehouse. You can pick your size at the store.

WAL-MART - A Slip of The Tongue Case
A Slip Of The Tongue is a “bonus case” that can be taken from the Traffic Desk. It’ll have you investigating a car theft that leads to an investigation into “the largest auto fraud racket the city has ever seen,” according to the game’s Web site.

That’s a lot content, but it looks like GameStop has secured, once again, the best deal in comparison to the rest of the reserve offerings. Then again, I’m not sure how handy these suits will be. I guess we’ll see on May 17 when the game hits the PS3 and Xbox 360?

Can't wait for this game.

Pre-order bonuses suck. End of story.

Day one at Amazon. Shitty pre-order bonuses won't stop me!

#6 Posted by Yummylee (18162 posts) - 2 years, 2 months ago

I couldn't help but lol at ''Every badge you find also five additional XP points.''

Sounds like an Engrish salesman.

404 on full story?

#8 Posted by JoeRosa (79 posts) - 2 years, 2 months ago

It is really unfair to split missions up like that.

#9 Posted by Nomin (870 posts) - 2 years, 2 months ago
@Abyssfull: could probably find one of those in Chinatown.

I agree considerin other stores are either getting a shirt or a suit
#11 Posted by m0rdr3d (474 posts) - 2 years, 2 months ago

Rental it is. Definitely not buying now. Preorder bonus nonsense like this REALLY turns me off.

#12 Posted by Little_Socrates (5440 posts) - 2 years, 2 months ago

You got it, tee-shirts sound like the plan.

#13 Posted by Kyreo (4594 posts) - 2 years, 2 months ago

This article has a lot of grammatical errors.  I expected better from you Nicholson.

Sometimes we Europeans get lucky and your crazy vendor-specific pre-order bonuses are included with all new copies in Europe. If not, I'll wait for the inevitable "full game edition" towards the end of the year or perhaps next year. And yes, that means they achieve the exact opposite of what they want. They want us to pre-order and instead they get some of us to hold off as much as a year. Gee gee!

and then the wind whispered, "just rent it..."

#16 Posted by Semi_Sauce (29 posts) - 2 years, 2 months ago

Booo , rock star!

#17 Posted by Mumrik (1053 posts) - 2 years, 2 months ago

Considering the amount of work that seems to go into any story part in that game, these bonus cases must be extremely simple and scaled back. I'm thinking Zaeed in ME2, but far worse.

@Floppypants: Urh?

man those preorder bonuses are really frustrating...

They're no fun, especially when a pile of vendors run different ones and makes you choose.
#21 Edited by Koobz (363 posts) - 2 years, 2 months ago

At this point I just put the blinders on and pre-order from Amazon every time.

I get why they do it, but, respectfully, fuck these motherfuckers in their fucking manipulative fuckfaces.

#22 Posted by Regal (386 posts) - 2 years, 2 months ago

I think this is healthy actually.

The guy I play with most of the time is very OCD about getting all the content for his games whether it be pre-order or DLC. Checking every corner, every line of dialogue (even if they have no interest). You guys know the type.

If they continue with this pre-order bullshit where you can only get one mission at the most maybe that'll numb the completionists out there who ruin games.

That's just my opinion. People can play how they want obviously, and sometimes it's fun to look in every corner if it's really enjoyable, I did with Arkham Asylum to get the question marks.

But frankly much of the stuff in lots of games is not worth seeing, and what is should be presented to the player by good game design.

Really looking forward to this game. And it sure as hell doesn't matter if I don't get yet another costume or mission.

#23 Edited by Guybrush (76 posts) - 2 years, 2 months ago

Does the T-Shirt say "LA Noire T-Shirt" on it? I hope so.

@Regal: What? Surely if there's stuff missing from the game it'll make your OCD friend explode, or go on some sort of rampage?

I really don't like when companies do this. I know that most of the stuff will be rubbish and not really worth getting hung up about, but it's still not cool.

I guess it's the retailer's idea. Rockstar has nothing to gain by doing this as it doesn't matter to them where people buy it. So I assume the retailers ask for exclusive content? In return for what, advertising?

No, sir, I don't like it.

#24 Posted by HarrySound (216 posts) - 2 years, 2 months ago

Don't pre-order.
Start a revolution.
Just give us ONE GOOD bonus not 20 spread across 300 stores!

#25 Edited by Roger778 (809 posts) - 2 years, 2 months ago

I'm going to pre-order the game at Gamestop, because I live in Medford, Oregon, and there's a store

there in the local mall.

That will get me the Naked City Vice Case.  Simply can't wait.
#26 Posted by jakob187 (20686 posts) - 2 years, 2 months ago

Target it is, then.  I'd rather have a shirt than the in-game junk.

#27 Posted by donaldkhogan (165 posts) - 2 years, 2 months ago
@jakob187:

Seriously.  Real stuff FTW.
#28 Posted by Brodehouse (7140 posts) - 2 years, 2 months ago

Complaining that you have to choose one piece of bonus content over another is just really weird.  Especially since I bet 80% or more of the people who order the game aren't going to do all of the content to begin with, why are you getting upset over missing some bonus stuff?

I like purchasing at Amazon and Best Buy, because they give me the retail experience I desire.  WalMart makes me feel like a child asking them to get me something behind their big glass case, and Gamestop is a claustrophobic fuckfest.  Piled with me being sick of the guilt trip you receive if you ask for something without having pre-ordered it, and the inevitable warranty offer.  Between blue suit or tan suit, maybe I'll go with blue.  Nice powder blue suit looks dapper.

#29 Posted by AuthenticM (3522 posts) - 2 years, 2 months ago

Fuck retailer-specific preorder bonuses.

#30 Posted by Kurtdyoung (1215 posts) - 2 years, 2 months ago

This game looks Fantastic.

#31 Posted by Chaser324 (3847 posts) - 2 years, 2 months ago

Wow! I don't really care about preorder bonuses when they're largely inconsequential cosmetic things like an alternate outfit or gold plated guns, but it looks like this is going to actually exclude people from potentially meaningful mission/case content. Pretty damn low. Hopefully the cases will be available as DLC at a reasonably low price.

Most likely this in game content will all become DLC packs about six months after the games release.

#33 Posted by zabian227 (11 posts) - 2 years, 2 months ago

This is the stuff that is making me not buy games as they are released.  Instead, I'm always waiting for the new edition that includes everything that should have been included in the first place.   I'm really looking forward to playing RDR: GOTY Edition :)

#34 Posted by Rampage (56 posts) - 2 years, 2 months ago

Fuck off making different stores get different stuff

My god that annoys me.

#35 Posted by Hourai (2788 posts) - 2 years, 2 months ago

Pre-order bonuses and day one DLC are cancer.

#36 Posted by raynate2022 (290 posts) - 2 years, 2 months ago

I'm with everyone here, retailer specific bonuses are garbage. It pretty much means Gamefly will continue to have my business.

#37 Posted by nintendoeats (5970 posts) - 2 years, 2 months ago

Wow. Liking video games really sucks these days.

#38 Posted by WEGGLES (739 posts) - 2 years, 2 months ago

Puttin my foot down.

Any time there's bullshit like this... I'll wait on a price drop for the game. Not putting money down early to pay full price and miss out on shit.

#39 Posted by AllanIceman (1280 posts) - 2 years, 2 months ago

This has to stop!

#40 Posted by FritzDude (2206 posts) - 2 years, 2 months ago

Here we go again...

#41 Posted by Sin4profit (2605 posts) - 2 years, 2 months ago

Pre order at Amazon also comes with $10 credit so if they do release the cases as DLC then the credit will have paid for it in the long run.

Still a bullshit system, though.

#42 Posted by Kontrapunkt (413 posts) - 2 years, 2 months ago

MAN!!! It looks like an action "Perry Mason"

It's looking A LOT better than it did two months ago as well brilliant in fact.

#43 Posted by Daroki (690 posts) - 2 years, 2 months ago

I don't care about suits or shirts, but when you're splitting content between the pre-order bonuses, you've done messed up.  I get Rockstar and the like wanting to dangle carrots in front of retailers to stock a non-GTA (or Red Dead now) title, but this is insane.

At least confirm the stuff you're missing out on is going to be available for everyone at SOME point.

#44 Posted by wickedsc3 (1046 posts) - 2 years, 2 months ago

Sorry Gamestop, still not going to order it from you.  My Pre Order: Amazon with release date shipping and a $20.00 credit from black ops give me a grand total of = 40.00 shipped.  Oh and a nice new $10.00 credit.  Thanks amazon.

#45 Posted by This_Dude (292 posts) - 2 years, 2 months ago

Death to Pre-Order "bonuses".    Notice the quotes.   it's only a bonus if it doesn't impact gameplay.

Exactly, you also feel like whatever you choose another one could be better. No way to tell until launch.
#48 Posted by Thordain (959 posts) - 2 years, 2 months ago

Well I always preorder from amazon, so news of a nice blue suit is cool. I do like me some blue suits.

#49 Posted by Meptron (1015 posts) - 2 years, 2 months ago

I do not pre-order games, and if I am going to be punished for buying a game after the release date then I will not buy it at all.

...aaaaand fuck you, Rockstar.
