@BoringK: It's happening on the 360 as well. And not to everyone in both cases.Yup. Maybe they'll update the story tomorrow.

Rockstar Theorizes PS3 Firmware 3.61 Causing L.A. Noire Freezing Issues [UPDATED]
I'm just in to report that I've noticed SUBSTANTIAL hiccuping during game play in LA Noire. I have a Slim 250gb and ofcourse, latest firmware and the exact same case they showed in the quicklook, it hiccuped so bad that I couldn't even walk around outside and select items. Once I walked inside, the hiccuping subsided. I have not experienced all out freezing yet.
It really freaked me out and I wondered if maybe I had a bad install. Part of me is sad that this problem is widespread and part of me is glad that it's not just me having these issues.
Rockstar said they internally tested the game and other games with older and the new firmware, and they said it definitely the FW update that is causing the shut downs. Sony should really be shitting right now.
Huh, just started on disc 2 and nothing major so far, the worse was a frame-rate drop when the LA Noire logo appeared at the beginning and the guy steps into the car. Other than that it's been smooth and also very cool to play, an extremely original and innovative game and I hope these freezing issues don't detract too much from the experience.
The old 'back in the day, shit just worked' rant is starting to really bore me. Most people with an original model NES will have had the top loading mechanism crap out or a cartridge that just stopped reading no matter how hard you blew it. Even consoles like the SNES require a systematic clean every now and again to keep it reading cartridges. Also, pretty much any console with moving parts or a HDD will eventually succumb to the ravages of time or by being played to death.

Wow, I don't get all the extra shit I paid for? I also have a limited edition sharp shooter suit and I can't use that either? What a gimmick.
Dammit! Have my PS3 copy coming today.
I feel it should be at least mentioned that even if the game only breaks on the new firmware, it is still not guaranteed to be Sony's fault. Maybe Rockstar mis-used a network API that Sony changed the implementation of in 3.61 or something.
There is precedent for blame being misplaced in this way - Microsoft got a lot of flak from people whose cheap network drives with hacked-together XP-specific SMB/CIFS implementations stopped working when they jumped from XP to Vista. Different scale, sure, but it's possible.
Hirai san getting all up in Rockstar's shit now.
I always find it super weird when people say a problem like this exists, when I literally have zero issues. Case, and point; I just finished playing L.A. Noire for 5 hours straight, and didn't experience a single lock up, or any other bugs for that matter.

Yeah, it's probably pretty much this...Got a problem? blame Sony.
"Sony has told us that while it is aware of the problem, there is currently "no evidence to indicate firmware 3.61 is causing any issues with PS3s."

Also I'm pretty sure this is related, I bought Gta 4 with both of the expansion packs included about a month ago for the 360, and within the first hour of playing lost and damned the console started to freeze. It happened about 5 times in a row and then red ringed. Maybe I was just unluckly but who knows?.
It seems it could be an issue whilst logged into the social club, i have spoken to some who have the game ( i'm waiting for my copy to arrive as i'm in the UK ) and they have no issues if they play logged out it's only when they try logged in that the freezing happens, this was both 360 and PS3 so worth a try .. i remember GTA IV being the same way when it launched before it was patched looks to be the same issue here.
Don't get your panties in a bunch about what I'm about to say PS3ers, but God I'm glad I don't have one. I don't deal well with things I pay for not working haha
*Blows into cartridge once more, then jams it in slightly less forcefully than last time*
I had mine freeze, but it was when I tried to access the PSN just to see what error it threw out. Its error was freezing, so I didn't do that again. Played for 5 or 6 hours without any issue after that.
