In video games, lasers are often seen as weapons. In reality, a laser, better scientifically described as a 'directed-energy weapon', capable of significant, physical damage, has yet to be used in combat. Lasers have, however, been used as targetting devices to guide other weapons, such as missiles, to their targets.
What may be the first example of a weaponized laser in science fiction is H.G. Wells', War of the Worlds; published in 1898. In War of the Worlds, alien ships fire invisible "heat-rays".
In video games, lasers are often portrayed as having a direct, point A to B, trajectory. The laser is sometimes a sustained beam, like Star Trek's phaser, or intermittent, like the Star Wars laser.

There is an alternate version of Laser called Laz0r (Shoop da Whoop). It's been used in many Games and Videos. It has been used as an Power Up, a Power or as an Attack. It's used in games like Final Fantasy and Portal Defenders. It is also used by Godzilla (See Screen to the right) and Godzilla-like Monsters. Laz0r is also called Shoop Da Whoop.

A laser is a focused beam of light, invisible through the air without some other medium (such as smoke) to illuminate it. Lasers are often used in video games as part of a targeting system, or as an offensive weapon in their own right.
