    Each level up your synergy effect becomes stronger. 
    The gold is their way of keeping score.

    Gold is used for two different game modes.  In Robbery if you steal a sack of gold and get it back to your platform, your team gets 300 gold.  The defending team gets X amount of gold per kill and gradually over time.  With Greed, whichever team gets the most sacks of gold, I think each gives 200, wins the match.
     
    Ranks up your damage, crits, armor, and accuracy squad boost effectiveness per level.  See here:
