I got around to playing the demo 4 times thismorning and all four times I have been teamkilled.  Now, I'm thinking about getting L4D2 because I missed the first game due to many other releases and  with the announcement of a sequel about the time I was considering it I thought I would just wait it out.. but after playing the demo and getting my first real experience of left 4 dead (which I really enjoyed) all I can think about is how common is teamkilling and general unpleasantness of other players in the first game? Because I don't fancy like spending £40 on a game I can never fully enjoy because other people decide they want to be dicks towards me... it might be fun for people and I understand it's only a demo but i'm completely unsold if this is common in matchmade games of L4D.

I have played a LOT of Left 4 Dead (360), I wouldn't say this type of behavior is necessarily common, but it does happen. You will get games, like with any multiplayer game, where people are assholes and team kill. But then, you will also have these amazing games with complete strangers that make the other crap you have to deal with well worth it. In fact, the greatest Left 4 Dead teams I have ever played with are ones where absolutely no one ever talks. I played the demo a few times this morning and didn't have any problems with anyone. Getting into four games in a row with bad players is a rarity, at least in my case. I think you just got severely unlucky.

That said, this is the type of game best played with people you know as well. Left 4 Dead was the most fun I've ever had on a four-player co-op game, due to being able to play it on release and on with my closest friends online. It doesn't look like that will happen with Left 4 Dead 2, so I am thinking of maybe trying to participate in a Left 4 Dead 2 Giant Bomb community thing, where we all can put up our gamertags/Steam names and play with each other.  That will increase the chances of being able to find people to play with who just want to have fun and not be assholes.

It's also worth noting that if you're playing with players who haven't really played before, teamkilling can happen without intention. When you have someone who is new spraying clips into a horde and team mates are running around, things can go bad quick.

@Vito_Raliffe:
ahh thats good to know, I was accidently hitting other players every now and then and I guess thats to be expected when it gets really frantic and youre new to the game... and I don't think thats why I was getting killed because I was trying to be all helpful and heal injured people... it's just I'd always get to a point where I assumed I was doing fine and then all of a sudden I have someone hacking at me with a machete or throwing a  molotov cocktail at me... it was incredibly frustrating... and I'll give it another shot and hope I have  more luck on my side.

Yeah, and in comparison to other online communities, I feel that Left 4 Dead is slightly better than the rest, due to the fact that no matter how much you may not like another player, it is always in your best interest to help them. Left 4 Dead really enforces cooperative play more so than other games. And usually, it is pretty easy to kick the players who are truly bad and trying to kill all of their team.

Here is the solution. Don't do quickmatches. Search for lobbies, and don't let them start the game until you are happy with your teammates.

When you play Versus it's a bit more serious because both teams really want to win for the most part. You might have just gotten unlucky and got paired up with idiots every time.

Ah yes the typical teamkiller. Every game seems to have at least one dick that has to ruin it for everyone else who wants to enjoy the game in it's serious entirety. I have never had problems with teamkillers in L4D, but with the likes of Call Of Duty 4 and Far Cry 2, it seems to be full of them.

I suppose the only guarantee you can get with having an enjoyable time with a game is if you play with at least one or 2 friends that you know and if someone persistently team-kills, vote to kick them from the game.

Somehow when I join a game on the normal difficulty I end up with people that seem to be new to the game (haven't played L4D1 I guess?). Luckily for me nobody teamkills, they just have a hard time surviving. On Advanced the players are pretty good and we have a good time.
If your friends are also getting L4D2, you should definitely play with them, you'll have a lot of fun! I find Versus fun with strangers because somehow my friends always get into arguments during versus games...
And you're right about this only being a demo. I'm pretty sure that the team-killers you are encountering are just guys that play the demo to mess around since they're not getting the full copy anyway.

It is probably more that you are playing the demo, than anything else. It is short and people seem to just mess around a lot. In the retail version of the first one I have rarely gotten team killed. And yeah, you can call a vote to kick someone from your party if you want to.

It's because it's the demo so people are bored of playing the same levels and decide instead to just team kill you and nobody cares about their stats.  Hopefully in the full game you will be punished for team killing constantly.

I think the fact that its a demo and people have played the shit out of it and are left with nothing else new to do could be a big part of it. I rarely if ever found people not playing the game as it was intended in l4d 1.

I often have a good time in multiplayer for L4D and other games, but I'm really tired of the idiots who think they are god's gift to video game playing and assume that everything that goes wrong in a game is due to the other three people who are playing, because clearly they suck, aren't even trying, dont' know what to do, are being jerks, etc, etc. Of course, that one person who won't stop yelling and complaining and swearing and whining and accusing other players believes that they are single-handedly carrying the entire game and everyone else is dead weight and sucks miserably. Especially when the game has been out for less than a day and the other people playing probably haven't even been through the map, yet, much less a thousand times.

The Left 4 Dead 2 community is full of a combination of decent people, assholes, and noobs. Although its weighted predominately towards the asshole and noob spectrums, from my experience.

You'll definitely find your fair share of intolerant jackoffs on XBL; however, under no circumstances should you let that dissuade you from buying an otherwise great game (especially if it's going to be your first L4D experience). My advice would be to try to tough it out until you find some decent folks to play with (they are out there), or, if you're really frustrated, just ask around for some GB zombie hunters.

In fact, I happen to be such a hunter. My gamer tag is TheSulkingDead if you ever want to play. Cheers.

If you get frustrated by the misbehavior of teammates, stay far, far away from any L4D game.

I have spent evenings where I would search for a decent game for hours, then eventually give up and go play another game.  No exaggeration.
