It's official, though I haven't heard a leaked peep out of it. Left 4 Dead 2 coming out in November. The trailer seems to take place in New Orleans, and I think it might have a story!!!!! New characters, and a new look. I even saw a Tank, and he look GREAT. CANNOT WAIT!!!!!!!
Left 4 Dead
Game » consists of 14 releases. Released Nov 18, 2008
Left 4 Dead puts players in the role of one of four survivors during a zombie apocalypse. Survivors will depend on co-operation to get from one safe house to another, while facing hordes of "Infected", four of which can be controlled by human players in certain game modes.
Left 4 Dead 2!!! Holy Shanarky Undead Batman!
Worst idea ever
I really hope this isn't the start of a "sequel every year and forget your current products" trend for Valve.
And also, Left 4 Dead 2 is a fucking retarded name, did they not realise this?
Call it ;
"Left 4 Dead: New Orleans" for example, and make it a complete expansion pack for Left 4 Dead, similar to ODST.
If this is a standalone product Valve have lost some of my confidence in them.
I'm not sure this is going to be a stand-alone. I can see Valve pulling off some sort of craziness and turning this into a 10 dollar - 20 dollar Expansion pack ala Lost and Damned for GTAIV.
For all those ALREADY doubting Valve, one of the finest companies to ever make games, and from my experience (owning every Valve game) they have yet to screw a customer over.
You know, when I lived in New Orleans I had to drive on the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway nearly every day. I always imagined being stuck on that piece of shit in some kind of emergency. Imagine, a 25 mile long one way ride. There's seriously no way to get off until you get to either side of the lake. They should seriously consider a level on that thing. I know a four lane, nearly all straight highway might sound boring, but think about it from the perspective of having no way to get off of that thing without getting to the end. I mean, look at this monster. Would you want to cross it on foot if it was clogged with broken down cars and zombies? There are plenty of cop stations that could be used as safe rooms...
lol - some ppl need to lighten up. God forbid anyone makes a new game...
I'm amazed this wasn't leaked, i was expecting a little somthing for portal or maybe a CS surprise.
I really can't imagine Valve re-skinning a game and sending it out early for ... oh wait ... PICTURE OF NEW CHARACTERS AND CAMPAIGN

But didn't it say something along the lines of "Exclusivley for Xbox 360 and PC-DVD"?
Maybe they're doing it to capitalize on people who don't have Steam. It could be downloadable for Steam users after a certain amount of time...
I think its just a glorified expansion pack. Well, I hope it is.
It's gonna be on Steam. And PC-DVD. And 360. Just like the first. Valve capitalised on people without Steam when they launched Half-Life 2 and each and every one interested in their games got Steam whether they wanted to or not. And then a multitude of other titles released on retail started requiring Steam also, like the Medieval Games, UT3 (if you want latest patch) etc. They have no reason to do non-Steam releases.

(from the l4d2 forum)
L4D2 announced less than a year after the first game is released confuses me. Especially when reading through the IGN article covering their hands-on with the game it just seems like this 'sequel' is exactly what they should of released in the first place and that the November 17th 2009 release date for the second game should have been when L4D was originally released.
Plus the fact that Valve is working on this makes me think a HL2: Episode 3 announcement won't be coming this year at E3. Maybe later on during the end of 2009 it will be announced but I just can't see them doing that now. Which is super disappointing since I'd rather Episode 3 than a knock-off L4D sequel this year.
Well if this is a stand alone game then valve is making a huge mistake, but at this point for all we know it could be an expansion
So far it looks like it could be one hell of an expansion, maybe not a whole new game. But then it has only just been announced.
I think it will be good fun either way, notice the gradual approach of night time.
keep in mind also that most of what we know about it was said at the xbox presser, for all we know it could be valve saying fine charge what you want to the xbox people but were not doing that to pc. it wouldn't be the first time after all

I got one thankyou. Here is an atrticle, some new stuff on level design, a new special zombie and why it has been released early.

I'm serious, after watching the gameplay video it looks more and more like a 10-20$ Expansion pack DLC package. I can almost guarantee it.

Will be a cool buy.
