I see your point, but I raise this one, What hasn't been made that hasn't been in some way influenced by something else?  Many characters, whether it be literature, movies or videogames have been influenced by outside sources.  So it isn't too surprising that there may be similarities in many different things.   
 
PS: A Shaun of the Dead game would be awesome as long as a Hot Fuzz sequel comes out.  So basically Rich Gallup's idea for videogames based upon actors but with Simon Pegg.

u can say anything is a rip off. gears of war is a rip off of killswitch. u can say it about anything...

I think games like movies have gotten to the point where people are always going to say that its a ripoff or a rehash of something

Call Of Duty 2 ripped off of World War 2.

Arn't all games a ripoff from something else? Isn't that how games get better by reusing good ideas and improving them?

L4D started the first person shooter genre and came up with the concept of zombies, it's also the first time you could ever play co-op with 4 people.
