Amy Hennig gave a really good interview on the Playstaion Blog where she reflected on working on Soul Reaver. She talked about the origins of the game, which will surprise some people, how they tackled the data steaming and working in a 3d environment, and also shared some personal feelings about the game.

Amy Hennig is mostly known for her work on Naughty Dog's Uncharted series but a lot of us here remember her when she worked for Crystal Dynamics where she contributed to the development of Legacy Of Kain: Blood Omen and then later wrote, directed, and produced Soul Reaver, Soul Reaver 2, and Legacy of Kain: Defiance.

I would have quoted the interview but it I felt it was too long for a quote.

I would LOVE LOVE LOVE an HD collection for the games in this amazing series. I am still hoping for a new game in the series. Defiance left a lot of unanswered questions.

Soul Reaver was one of my favorite games of the era but haven't gone back to it in more than a decade. Time to dust off the Dreamcast version

As long as they don't change LOK:Blood Omen to a 3D game I'm in. I would love to splatter some fools with Havoc and Malice.

You could draw parallels with Darksiders, especially II.

I always thought these were cool games, but they've all aged pretty poorly. Someone should reboot the series.

Interesting. I knew some of that (like the original ending before time constraints came a-knocking) but didn't know the original concept was an entirely different IP. Explains the sudden jump from Kain to Raziel as protagonists.

I like all the games in the series (still have to play Blood Omen though, it's on my Vita right now so I'll get to it) but Soul Reaver 2 will always hold a special place in my heart. I love that game. Especially that opening cutscene...

Sweeeeeet. Thanks for posting this duder.

Edit: Just read it. Great interview. Soul Reaver has always been one of my favourite games. I distinctly remember playing the demo over and over again. Funny enough the swimming controls stand out still today. The game's style is amazing, and as Hennig says, and what I think is the most important aspect of Soul Reaver, is how the gameworld and gameplay tie in so perfectly. No ludonarrative dissonance here suckas!

Cool read, I'd really like for this series to make some sort of return someday.
