The news story made me go back and watch this scene again. God damn, Legacy of Kain had good writing. I hope whatever's coming lives up to it.
Legacy of Kain
Set in the mythical realm of Nosgoth, the Legacy of Kain franchise follows the tragic tale of the vampire Kain as he tries to fulfill his destiny as Nosgoth's savior. The gameplay involves action and puzzle-solving elements.
Oh, What the Hell, Let's Just Reboot Legacy of Kain, Too
of all the games that need a new entry, these games need to come back. the story still is left open.
seqboot ? BOO! I already covered this idea with the word "requel ", Alex. Sounds less like a lost desert cavern.
In true Square fashion, it would be great if the old titles were rereleased digitally. Facelifts seem too much to hope for, however straight PSN rereleases seem possible since all 5 titles did appear on either PSX or PS2. While I played some of the installments on DC and XBOX, because they were arguably superior versions, the straight up ROM dump by Square onto PSN seems much more financially feasible (and matches Square's MO).
I would love a new Soul Reaver game, but that evidence doesn't suggest a reboot, but a sequel or something. I mean, this is a pretty story heavy franchise. Sure you can reboot shooters and other games like Carmageddon, or games where the fiction has no bearing on the next game, but you don't reboot this series. Or at least not in that sense and just keep the lore but move onto a new set of characters or something. Though i doubt people would be happy with a game without Raziel or Kain. Sorry but this will not be a reboot. A relaunch is more like it.
I think a reboot would only really work if you concentrated on Kain first. Calling a series "Legacy of Kain" and then concentrating on Raziel would not draw in an influx of newcomers a reboot would hope to spur. It would be too confusing.
Soul Reaver 2 was the only game I really enjoyed in the series, but I enjoyed it enough to want more.
I'm not sure I want a LoK without Amy Henning (aka the lady that does Uncharted now but used to do LoK). I never really played these games for the gameplay, and I'm not sure somebody can recapture the overwritten, crazy, pseudo-shakespearean, this-is-what-Twilight-was-going-for-but-couldn't-pull-off tone of those games without the original writers.
God damn...first Eidos Montreal works Deus Ex: Human Revolution, then the Montreal studio begins working on Thief 4 as they wrap up Deus Ex, and now Square's letting Eidos bring back Legacy of Kain?
I think Square's beginning to realize how much of an asset Eidos is to their bottom line. Deus Ex: HR just might create a bump in their sales figures.
I love the series (apart from Blood Omen 2), but I don't really know what can be done with the plot after Defiance. They've managed to wrap everything up neatly.I found the ending of Defiance to be both epic and waaaay too emotional for me to admit how emotional I found it and still retain my manliness.
FUCK YES.
Though Amy Hennig's gone, so I don't know what to expect from a story. And yes, Simon Templeman is required. Michael Bell as well, although I'm not sure if Raziel would even return.
And Tony Jay's death was sad, and no one could ever fill his shoes with the Elder God. Or they could just hire Billy West and have him do every voice.
@IntramanDW said:Actually that's not what happens. But who could do a better job as Tony Jay as the voice of the Elder God?Still I would like to see some more LoK. Only series to do vampires correctly. Let's just hope they get most of the people from the original voice cast.He died at the end of LOK: Defiance, so no worries there.
This is weird. I was recently asked what game series we would want remade/rebooted, and my answer was the Legacy of Kain series. I guess my wish came true.
You know what I found out from this? CARMAGEDDON REBOOT!!! OMG!! also soul reaver 2 was cool when I first played it cause it was one of the first 3rd person hack and slash in that way I ever played, also Raziel looked kind of beastly and the way he would suck souls and stuff was pretty cool, oh and the puzzels omg man those were so hard go through this portal do a puzzle to open another puzzle through the third portal you had to write it down so you wouldn't get lost. never finished it. :( and it looks pretty bad now.
The tone of this article is annoyingly dismissive and condescending to any fans who have been waiting on this series for several years.
I suppose Alex is just being tongue in cheek, but the phrase " OH GOD LET'S JUST REBOOT WHATEVER" sounds like it's coming from a very jaded and cynical place, even if it is a stab at humor
A Carmageddon reboot is worth lampooning, but this series has actual merits
I'd like to know why people see the ending to Defiance as a cliffhanger.
