so going from the very start we have

    • soft porn adventure (1981)
    • leisure suit larry land of the lounge lizards (1987)
    • leisure suit larry land of the lounge lizards sci remake (1991)
    • leisure suit larry land of the lounge lizards reloaded (2013)

i cant think of any one game that has been remade more than the larry has

@blackichigo: There are very few remakes in that series.

Final Fantasy IV, though? There's the original, the original western edited version, FFIV Advance, the DS remake, the PSP version including the After Years, and... did I miss any?

    Doom

    The Oregon Trail

    Dragon's Lair

Although it all depends on your specific interpretation of what constitutes a "remake" as opposed to a port, a re-release, a franchise reboot, or a derivative sequel.

@hailinel: I dunno. I feel like the original Final Fantasy beats IV by several ports.

Do re-releases count as re-makes? Doom has been re-released in some fashion on nearly every platform imaginable, but I don't know if we can call that a re-make since it wasn't actually, y'know, re-made.

    @hailinel:

Does Easytype count, though? I remember something weird about that game's development, about it being based on the American version except not really. I can never keep that story straight.

Yeah, I wouldn't count that either. Doom 3 is pretty much a remake of Doom 1, but other than that I'm not sure. Doom 64 and Doom PSX had some visual upgrades and changes compared to the original game, but I'm not sure I'd call them remakes, other than that most ports have been fairly faithful.

Wizardry I comes to mind though, almost every Wizardry game made after Sir-Tech shut down in 2001 and the Japanese publisher Gamepot got the IP have been remakes or homages to the first couple of Wizardry games:

Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord (1981)

    Wizardry: Llylgamyn Saga (1997)

Wizardry: Tale of the Forsaken Land (2001)

    Wizardry: Summoner (2001)

Wizardry Xth: Academy of Frontier (2005)

    Wizardry Xth: Unlimited Students (2006)

    Class of Heroes (2008)

Wizardry: Labyrinth of Lost Souls (2009)

@hailinel: The playstation 1 version was a little more like the original japanese version, probably still counts as just a port though.
