    Linger in Shadows

What the fuck is Linger in Shadows? It's a like a game, but you don't do anything. Linger in Shadows is a demoscene. A demoscene is usually a non interactive video that shows visuals and plays music. Yes, Linger in Shadows is one but it goes off that path. It's a demoscene that you interact with, which is where it differs. The devs Plastic have made a hell of a downloadable game.

There's really no story to speak of in Linger in Shadows. I guess you could say you could come up with a story on your own. Basically you follow a black smoke in through a tunnel, through pipes and into a city. The city, which might be Earth it doesn't say, is in ruins. Buildings have fell over, windows broke, trash everywhere. As it goes, there is a dog and cat. The dog tries to jump onto a platform with a statue but the shadow stops it. This activates a machine like things. Which goes out and goes to the dog. Now at this point I really don't understand what is going on. But watching it all is very beautiful and graceful. The game is only seven minutes long so no story or explanation doesn't hurt it at all. The basic gameplay is you have to freeze time, look around for a clue you need to unlock. These are usually found by a triangle button flashing letting you know you need to stop time (by pressing X) and look around. If you don't and miss it, the game will automatically rewind back to that point you missed.

Graphically this game shines for a PSN game. The colors are very washed out but somehow fits to the apocalyptic, dirty

style of the game. It has a nice art style to the text, if you see the picture on the wiki page or on Plastics page you'll know what I'm talking about. It fits well into the game.

The game also features a fantastic and memorable soundtrack. Rewinding the time has nice whispers in the background behind the rewind sound. The shadow makes nice sounds when moving through areas as the the machine that comes at the end.  It's top notch.

After you beat the "story mode" that's called Linger, there's really nothing to do. You unlock a new menu that really just is a extended part of the credits. Though it's cool that they added a new option on for the end.

In the end this is a fantastic PSN game that I very much enjoyed. Yes a seven minute game might turn off most, but it's a hell of a seven minutes. If you're someone that loves trophies, you'll love Linger in Shadows because you get about all 16 of them by the time you finish you're first run through. Linger in Shadows is a very innovative game. If Plastic makes anything else in the future, I'll be stoked.

WTF? ...wait, I kinda like this thing! 0

Can I review something that is not really a game?  Well, I'm being charged for it, so I guess that’s a yes. I found myself purchasing this demoscene (unlike the other demoscenes I’ve heard about, this one is interactive) from PSN for about $2.99. So, the first thing I did was just watch the thing and then I interacted with it. Before I continue I have to say that although I enjoy art, I have little cultured in said area. Asa  demoscene, Linger in Shadows almost seems to offer an epoch of an al...

Grab your Sixaxis controller and prepare to be underwhelmed by this demo-scene art project. 0

Linger in Shadows is an unusual ‘demoscene’ interactive art project that was released digitally by Sony for the Playstation 3 that went wholly unnoticed at the time and playing it now has highlighted why its short unfulfilling premise didn’t land. With the Playstation Now subscription service about to be abandoned and folded into the tiered Playstation Plus service, I felt it fitting to take a look through the games on offer before they potentially disappeared. In amongst the la...
