LittleBigPlanet 2 Beta Coming To The US Soon

Posted by BradNicholson (812 posts) -
Media Molecule has been dishing out LittleBigPlanet 2 beta invites to excited PS3 owners in Europe, but not the rest of the world. According to a recent post on the official PS blog, that will change in the next few weeks as the studio continues to test its servers against the strain of mass creativity.

"Yes, beta codes are going out," SCEA marketing manager Mark Valledor wrote on the blog, "But globally, we’re taking steps to best test our server environment, so we’re distributing beta codes in phases. The first phase of testing started earlier this week with our European LBP community. In a few weeks, we’ll be growing the participant base with US and other countries."

Valledor promised that "more news [is] to come," regarding the global release of the beta client, which leaves some room to speculate that Media Molecule and SCEA might be planning to offer traditional sign-ups for the rest of the beta phase. Alas, hard details on how the beta will be distributed were not shared.

If you want a hint as to how to get into the forthcoming US beta (if there won't be sign-ups), check out how European testers were picked. In Europe, testers were chosen based on how active they are in LBP. Room wasn't made, apparently, for those who put the game down a few times since its 2008 release.

== TEASER ==LBP2, like its predecessor, is generating buzz with its user-creation component, the focus of the beta. According to previous coverage, you can make just about anything you want to make with the online tools this time around, including an RTS or a dual-stick shooter. To be honest, I'd like to jump into the beta just for the practice, but I suppose that defeats the noble purpose of this beta.

Even if it were a PlayStation Plus Bonus, not everyone who bought PS+ would get a Code.

LBP is a lot of fun, and LBP2 is looking pretty cool with what they have in it. After LBP2 where do they have go and what do they have to do for LBP3?

#28 Posted by NovaDTH (155 posts) -

I don't care how much I get picked on for it, I love me some LBP.

#29 Posted by boylie (305 posts) -

I'm really looking forward to this, even though I fall firmly in the "haven't played since about a month after launch" camp.  I guess that means I'm prolly out of the running for the beta. Sadface.

I'm very excited for this game. I never got around to buying the first one, but I played it a lot of people's houses.

The tools in LBP2 look like something I could put lots of hours into.

I wonder if the fact that my son still plays LBP every chance I let him means that a beta code might be forthcoming.  If so my son's made me even happier than I already am with him.  :)

Can't wait for this game. Hopefully I get into the beta.

#33 Posted by xyzygy (9944 posts) -

I really hope I like this game more than the first one..

If it means I'm gonna have to update though, this beta is a no-can-do for me.
