Little Big Planet 2 is by far one of the most unique and creative games ever made, it offers endless hours of gameplay, fun co-op, crazy amounts of customization. and endless amounts of fun that is only limited by your own imagination. This is a game that everyone should own, and it's worth buying a PS3 for just to experience it.
Little Big Planet 2 is very similar to it's past installment, it's a platformer that allows you to play with up to 4 friends (locally or online) and you play through the various story or user made levels. However the biggest difference in Little Big Planet 2 is it expands the creative aspects even further, if you thought the first Little Big Planet had crazy amounts of creation to it, you are going to be in for a big surprise as Little Big Planet 2 has even more creative aspects! From side scrolling platform levels, to top down beat em' ups, to first person shooters, and much, much more! Little Big Planet 2 never ends in the variety it offers, new content is constantly being added every single minute, and the best part is that the levels from the first Little Big Planet game have been ported over to it's sequel. The story mode actually has a bit of a story this time around, and even some voice actors.
It revolves around a monster called the Negativatron, a monsterous being that is seeking to destroy CraftWorld. You play as your Sackboy once again (Don't worry, your outfits and other items all transfer over from the first game) and you team up with various characters such as Larry Da Vinci, Victoria Von, Clive Handforth, and more. Each of the characters are funny and interesting, providing a good value of entertainment. The levels are full of variety and surprises, each one is unique from the last and offers ton's of items to find, high scores to earn, bonus levels, and more. You will keep coming back to the story mode again and again.
Outside of the story mode you can also play the many, many user made levels. It makes you feel like a kid in a candy store, you never know what you're going to find. However at times levels can load a little slow, which can become annoying, but overall it is a minor issue as the game is so fun and for the most part the levels load fairly quickly. And there are some really great levels that you can play and discover, and the community spotlight helps separate the not so inspired levels from the great ones. The Little Big Planet community is very large, but the community features helps the community feel more connected and you will always feel up to date on every aspect that is happening in Little Big Planet 2, from the hottest new levels, user spot lights, upcoming events, and more! Little Big Planet 2 never leaves you out of the loop.
And of course this means that the very in-depth level creator for the first Little Big Planet is back, but this time it's even bigger. It is packed with an insane amount of tools and freedom, you can make literally anything. However it can be a bit confusing to learn how to use it, and the tutorial does not go into depth enough to explain it all. It kind of just gives you the basic run down quickly and makes you figure out the rest. It would have been more helpful if it explained each aspect in greater detail, but regardless the level creator is still very fun to use and you'll learn along the way. Little Big Planet 2 also offers endless amounts of customization, from character outfits to decorating your pod, there are new items and objects always being added. The result is highly addictive and it will keep you busy for a very long time.
However the best thing is that you don't have to go through Little Big Planet 2 alone, you and up to 4 others can have all sorts of adventures. You are free to take on the story mode together, or the user made levels, or even make your own level with your friends. Multiplayer only enhances the Little Big Planet experience even further. Unfortunately at times the co-op can get a little laggy, most of the time this is a non issue but it does happen on more than one occasion. Visually Little Big Planet 2 is quite impressive, the game has a variety of different art styles and color pallets, and the graphics look crisp and clean, it's not the best looking game by any means, but it's still good to look at. Control wise the game is almost identical to the first Little Big Planet, but a bit more refined, it still has that floaty aspect to them, but overall controlling your sackboy (or sackgirl) is a smooth and fun experience.
Little Big Planet 2 is a game everyone should play. It's bold and imaginative, it features endless amounts of gameplay for every kind of person. It's few issues are overall minor. Little Big Planet 2 is a game for everyone, and it's a game everyone should own.
Little Big Planet 2 get's a 5/5
