LittleBigPlanet
Game » consists of 8 releases. Released Oct 27, 2008
Lead the way as a player-created Sackperson in the highly customizable side-scrolling world of LittleBigPlanet, where players can play, create, and share 2.5D levels with their friends and the whole PSN community.
Play, create.. sell?
I personally do not want this, and I have thought about it ALL DAY, it comes down to this. It only benefits a very very small % of the LBP community. Therefore I think it would be better fr everything to be free, and remember, the slogan of this game is Create, play, and SHARE. Not sell.
The best way to go about this I think is to e-mail MM
Here is the address
hello@mediamolecule.com
I think if there is enough negative feedback at this idea then MM will not implement it, the power is in the people, use it!
Totally agree with Snipes. I do not want to have to pay for this user-generated content. I want and need this stuff to be free. When you think about it, it's a good idea but I just don't want to have to constantly use my credit card to make purchases of $2 or whatever for levels that should've been free.
"Play, Created, Sell" was exactly what I thought when I initially read this =P
So long as the majority of user created content remains free then it shouldn't be an issue really. Personally I doubt I'd ever buy a level even if it was from a top user or if it were popular, much more fun to create the stuff yourself. Suppose it's nice to have the option to make some money off your creativity though. End of the day if it isn't getting bought then they'll likely make it free anyways.
i think its awsome. everyone can share there levels for free and there will be plenty of content. And people like me who love createing could make a pack of like 5 really good, fun, enjoyable and visually intesting maps and sell them for a ridiculious reasonable price compared to say downloable content that very often gets way overpriced.
It would be a good way to get new levels for the game. People will want to sell levels in order to pay for new ones.
The only problem I would see is that nobody would buy the most recent ones at the bottom of the list. That and the fact that Little Big Planet is so big already, it doesn't need anything like this to encourage people to create levels.
I think that would turn out to be pretty negative....then again...this is basically what microsoft is doing with people who make games with XNA so,I guess we'll see what happens. Reguardless it would still only be some content charged for and plenty free, not like anyone is making someone pay for a level they don't want to.
Lol, no. He means LATER down the line users might be able to charge for their levels. Say my level is amazing (hypothetical lol), people play several of my levels, its on the top of the popular list, people know and love them, etc. Then I release a sequel to that level that everyone loved, how about charging 50 cents for it? People know it is going to be an awesome level, so why not?
So I think it was just an idea, like for the future... But most people won't charge even when this does become available, unless they are known for badass levels.
This is probably the thing that I dislike most about the game. And if anyone could help me clear up a few things that would be great
-What stops someone from charging for an empty level? If a user was extremely popular and created a new level (totally empty) and charged 1 dollar for it then what stops a bunch of users would spend $1 on absoluetly nothing.
- Another case would be creating an impossible level (for example putting a wall in front of the Finish line) or just creating a really shitty level and charging for it.
Like my biggest problem is what stops users from charging for something that isn't worth the money at all just to make a quick buck or two. I think I'm gonna email MM because this could really ruin a nearly perfect experience.
ReTarDedFisHy is a little worried to be honest... he heard about the news a while back, doesn't know if it'll be +ive or -ive... I think MM should be in charge of the "Moderation" on selling "high-end levels". Maybe a playtest? :o
"This is probably the thing that I dislike most about the game. And if anyone could help me clear up a few things that would be greatI would think that if you wanted to charge you would have to have Media Molecule go through and test it to make sure it wasn't a crap level. I for one actually kind of like this idea though. Most of my friends hate LBP and every time I bring it up they always are saying how none of the user content is going to be any good. However with something like this implemented that will give a LOT of people incentive to start making some really amazing levels. And if it is something like you have to make X number of amazing levels before you can submit a level for sell then we could be getting a very large number of quality levels.

Dont like the idea. I am not paying to play any level no matter how good it is. Someone will probably have as good a level for free.
Sounds like a good idea, to an extent. But don't expect it in 08, and even if it comes in 09 most wouldn't use it, unless they are really popular/well known for good levels.
This has been shot down thankfully, Reeves was talking about the potential the game has to evolve but nobody is going to be charging for levels anytime soon.
Exactly, and its funny to see how people reacted to it... this is why companies can't speak openly about stuff sometimes, because people don't get it..
I think it should be more like "play, create, share". I dont want to pay for user created content. DLC from the creators would be a different matter, of course.
