Romance of the Three Kingdoms was translated to english by more than one author. You guys sure that this isn't just one of the variations ? I'd go for Liu Bei too.

Its not. He spelt it like Lieu in lieutenant. Simple mistake. And fixed, too. The alternate spelling is Xuande or something nutty.
