Minigames

These are often a departure from the conventional gameplay of a game. There have also been compilations; games including only minigames.

Good Vs. Evil

Some games allow a character to take a path of either good or evil. It is up to the player to decide which.

In-Game Map Editor

Map Makers or Editors are built-in tools that allow the average gamer to tweak or fully customize a map of their own, with no mod or programming skills required.

Level Selection

Instead of having the game decide for you which level you should go to next you have a choice to choose the level you want to play.

Collectibles

Collectibles are items such as coins, rings, gems, packages ect. that can be gathered, usually for some kind of reward. Often (almost too often) the source of earning achievements on the Xbox 360

Secret Area

A Secret area is a place hidden that few will find unless they know where to look.

Demo

A free stripped down version of a retail game for people to try out and see if its worth buying.

Platinum Games

While some games can sell hundreds of thousands of units, not all are recognized as being Platinum Games immediately. Sometimes it can take a while for these games to be re-released at a cheaper price, as demonstrated by both Sony and Microsoft, but when they are they become part of the Platinum range on that platform.

Non-Humanoid Protagonist

Some games feature protagonists that are not humanoid in nature. These are creatures that do not have human characteristics (i.e. stand on 2 legs, have 2 arms, a body and a head).

Jump

It's arguably the one move that symbolizes the medium to those outside it. The ability to jump, be it onto building, onto platforms, or onto skulls, is one of the all time most important abilities ever put in a video game.

Character Select Screen

A concept in games with multiple characters, a screen with pictures of all playable characters with the possibility of stat listings.

Player-owned Houses

Player-owned houses are houses that usually serve as a hub for activity in a game, and can be customized in their look.

Detachable Body Parts

Some creatures can easily take off some of their "major" body parts without any real harm to them. Sometimes they can grow new ones quickly or re-attach the parts they took off.
