Found it while browsing NeoGAF. Is it only me that it seems bit bland and the gameplay somehow lacks music ?

As with every Suda51's games, I am interested but cautious.

Been wanting too see some raw gameplay footage of this. Looks good. Can't wait to play it.

Zombies just aren't interesting enough for a hack n slash, hopefully we get some warped suda enemies to make up for how monotonous the zombies will get

#4 Posted by Atramentous (2465 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

Yup, this confirms that I do not like Suda51 very much. All his games remind me of Simple Series games from the ps1/ps2 years but without the redeeming value of being 20 bucks.

#5 Posted by JeanLuc (3316 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

That's not the gameplay I played at PAX East.

It was at a school, there was hard rock, a comic book style interface, and tons of banter between Juliet and her boyfriend's head. It was really funny and fun.

#6 Posted by Vorbis (2746 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

It looks very unfinished and it wasn't from PAX, someone got their hands on an early build perhaps?

#7 Posted by Morrow (1793 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

Gameplay looks fun, and I like her moves. The shooting won't be my taste, though.

Already have it on my Amazon wishlist.

I hope it has some RPG elements :]

This looks dumb, at not in a good way either.

#9 Posted by Cloudenvy (5731 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

That looks...Not very good.

#10 Posted by Daveyo520 (6548 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

I played the demo and I found the gameplay to ne pretty fun. Also I can't really turn down a Suda 51 game. It is indeed very No More Heroes like.

Yeah, this is what I'm thinking. It looks like quite a few things are missing. Like, why would there be no music anywhere at all in that video? Even the shittiest of shit-ass-shit games have music.

I'm calling it that this video was made waaaaaaaay before PAX. Still my most anticipated goty though so June cannot get here fast enough.

#12 Posted by Daveyo520 (6548 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago
@BabyChooChoo There is a trailer on here just talking about the music if you want to see what it is like.
#13 Posted by Tennmuerti (6823 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

Combat seems to be kind of boring and monotonous.
The rest seems fun.

#14 Posted by BabyChooChoo (3579 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

@Daveyo520: Oh, I know. I've watched that video quite a few times lol.

#15 Posted by Morrow (1793 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

@Daveyo520:

Are there any RPG elements to it? Like gaining exp or points to improve your skills? Or anything? I'm so desperate for RPG-like games D:

#16 Posted by Otacon (2101 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

Seems like this could be pretty hilarious, hopefully the gameplay holds up.

While that build may not be with the times concerning the development, I still think it's largely representative of how the gameplay will function. Which is looking to be super clunky and unrefined, but mixed in with a lot of creative flair. It also at least looks like it'll be pretty funny throughout (did the girl riding the bus shout out ''Oh fuckballs''?). Yup, this is as Suda as a Suda game could get.

#18 Posted by Daveyo520 (6548 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago
@BabyChooChoo Mind you I coukd not really hear it while playong but that was because the whole place was so loud. It was making music of some kind though. It was not silent.

@Morrow I did not see any but I did not get to see everything. ait was still tutorial stuff. There were coins you collect though. I don't know of those were for score or to buy new moves however.
#19 Posted by duggshammer (158 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

What's up with these clunky, unpolished, noticeably low-budget Japanese action games? Damn, spend more money on the game itself, not a huge ad campaign with a busty chick.

#20 Posted by Daveyo520 (6548 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago
@duggshammer Suda makes the besy with what his is given. Also it gives his games charm.
#21 Posted by Nottle (1879 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

I hope that the combat is better. Suda usually does a bad job with that. Also they have fricking Akria Yamanoka doing the music, why aren't they showing that off?

#22 Posted by Daveyo520 (6548 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago
@Nottle From what I played I found the combat to be fun. Do we have the same idea of how fun combat feels? That is a question. I think they just want to show off the western music to try and gain interest from people over jere that woild be into that.
#23 Posted by Nottle (1879 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

@Daveyo520: I'm not sure. In terms of combat I'd say Bayonetta or Batman is 10 because both are quick, responsive, and deep. No More Heroes is a 6, NMH lacks depth but I still enjoyed it, but it wasn't why i played that game. God of War would be a 7, Madworld would be a 5.

I don't know if that helps, but I feel like if I ever play this game it will be for the same reasons I bought No More Heroes.

#24 Posted by Daveyo520 (6548 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago
@Nottle I think I woukd go with a 7 or 8 then. It felt a lot like NMH but in feel. It played better.
#25 Posted by Zidd (1776 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

I don't know how old the build was that they were showing off.

#26 Posted by Daveyo520 (6548 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago
@Zidd That is not what they were showing at PAX East.
#27 Posted by JarretttheGuy (14 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

I have to say that I LOVE the pink hearts, rainbows, and other "girly" graphics as you slaughter zombies. That's really really fantastic.

The game play does look a little monotonous, but I'll wait until I actually play the game to make that call.

#28 Posted by Daveyo520 (6548 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago
@JarretttheGuy The game is super crazy like it should be.

Batman's combat is a 10? You mash a button and press Y when someone's head flashes. There's not much depth.

yeah i've never understood why people say things like "Batman AA has the best melee combat system of the generation". you freaking mash a button and press Y when you see a flashy thing.

You could mash buttons but you will do a lot better if you don't.

How? There's just one attack button, right? I mean, i got nothing against button mashers. I fucking love God Of War, No More Heroes and MadWorld but JESUS, all you do is press a button and then go "Ops, i need to counter that guy." then Batman goes and do a Batman thing. It's beatiful yes, but, what's the depth in Arkham Asylum/City? That's a serious question.
Also, since you've played the game... How was the music?

I personally disagree. I think the generally poor gameplay in Suda's games take away from their charm - which would otherwise be irresistible.

Man I wish Suda would get hooked up with a better development team so that I too could revel in their absurdity.

#35 Posted by Daveyo520 (6548 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

@MikeGosot: Well if you time your presses better you can get combos and critical hits.

Sadly I could not really hear it, the show was so loud. I wish they had headphones.

@ProfessorEss: Well I thought the gameplay was fun in this.

#36 Posted by MikeGosot (3227 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago
@Daveyo520:  Timing does not add much depth to a system. It makes it less button-mashy, sure, but it's not depth. Onechanbara had a system like that, and Onechanbara is... Not very good. I feel like i'm going to start talking about what is depth in an action game, so i'll just stop talking about this.

And it's a bummer that you couldn't hear the music. Also, last question, i promise: There were many zombies in the demo? Like, fighting 10, 15 at the same time...

The depth in Arkham's combat comes from mixing in the gadgets to build up your multiplier, then using the cc moves to do group takedowns/group finishers.

Standing around having a ten minute fist-fight with a pack of goons is a valid play-style too though.

Woo, i never really used many gadgets in battles. Did a lot of group takedowns, though... Hm, i guess i should finish Arkham City.

Can't wait to get my hands on this. Not for $60 mind you, but I can't resist the voice of Tara Strong.

#39 Posted by Daveyo520 (6548 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

@MikeGosot: Not at once no. The demo they showed was in a high school and it was still tutorial stuff. I say like 5 at a time in hallways and a few classrooms. I am guessing it was early in the game and they would dump more enemies on you later.

#41 Posted by Daveyo520 (6548 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

@MikeGosot: You are welcome. Sadly I didn't even get to play the whole demo, they kicked everyone out at an allotted time.

#42 Posted by TobbRobb (3308 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

It looks alright, I think the trailer really suffers from the lack of music "I hope the full game isn't like that at least".

I also really don't like how the animation just resets after a combo, but whatever.

Whatever guys, I'm buying it for the hipster cred.

Really though, Suda's games are all about the crazy. Bad gameplay is all the more post-modern.

Gameplay doesnt really matter, the absolute insane story is why you should play a Suda51 game.

I just wish it wasn't so... dirty.
