Here is a look at the game for anyone who wants to dig in. I for one... am not watching it. I don't want anything spoiled for myself. If spoilers aren't a issue with you then jump right in and watch. They show off a good 20 minutes as you can see by the timestamp on the video. I can't wait for this June 12th can't come fast enough.
Lollipop Chainsaw
Game » consists of 8 releases. Released Jun 12, 2012
This deliberately ridiculous third-person action game stars Juliet Starling, a zombie-slaying cheerleader who's almost as handy with a chainsaw as she is with a pair of pom-poms.
Great look at the game thanks to the fine folks at Gamespot
After skimming through the video, can't say it's going to be a buy for me. I don't know, just seems too zany for me.
Also, I live with 3 women, and I don't know what playing this would do to my reputation with them, lol.
At this point I'm all in. I'm staying away from anything resembling story or long videos so I can experience the insanity myself.
This is the first I have seen of the actual gameplay and it looks like a "Simple Series" game without the advantage of being a budget release.
I really like the dodging mechanics. I feel that aside from the fantastic combo mechanics found in Bayonetta and Devil May Cry 3 you also need to be able to avoid damage/counter attacks. From what I saw in the video the game's combat mechanics seems to be the best that Suda has put out. All in all it seems to be a very serviceable action/beat em up game.
It's nice to have a good look at this game, finally. I was holding off on it until a Giantbomb Quick Look, because all of the trailers have been terrible. They've done a great job of showing off the tone of the game - Suda 51 + Grindhouse, with a ton of awkward cursing (like Bulletstorm, it's off putting imo) and weird humor - but have barely shown any gameplay. I knew it was a brawler, but how much depth would there be? Was it going to be like No More Heroes? I mean, it's pretty clearly the spiritual successor to that awesome series.
It's good now to see that the campaign appears to hold up. There's character upgrades, the whole "Sparkle" system (it's very apparent that scores and leaderboards will be important here), and in general some nice varied pieces to the campaign (like having Cordelia act as a sniper at that one point in the video). With some cool bosses too, it really looks like Lollipop Chainsaw should be a pretty great brawler. AND it's $44 on Amazon - thanks for that pre-release discount, Warners.
Still though, I'll probably pick it up a bit later. I just bought a car; gotta lay off the game purchases now. Can't get a new game a month anymore; not if I wanna pay this thing off in a timely fashion. I also have a stack of games to shave down anyway; once I finish a few of those, I'll pick this up.
I can't justify paying full price for anything Suda makes. I'll pick it up if the reviews are decent and once it's discounted. I find developers like Suda51 and Tim Schafer to be the M. Night Shyamalans of video games.
@billyhoush: I am the opposite. I buy almost anything Suda and Schaefer put out day one to support them. Shadows of the damned was one of my favourite games last year, for example. And it is a crying shame that it didn't sell well. Lollipop is already available in some stores (they all broke streetdate, which is June 15th) here in Germany, I will get it later today.
Dat ass.
On the other hand those tiny drab environments, lackluster visuals and gameplay that was already starting to bore me just from the few minutes of the video. Meh. Pretty much what i expected from previous demo showings.
And that joke at 14 min ... ugh, just UGH.

Agreed, that joke at 14 sealed it.

she's 18 because we say she is, even though we animate her to act 15 with the body of a 20 year old. i'll pass on the creepy pedo-cheerleader game.
I don't get it.
In honor of this game, I bought Shadows of the Damned (not really, just really wanted to play it). I'm not interested at full price, and I feel bad about it because I really like the crazy ideas Suda come up with.
