Lollipop Chainsaw

Game » consists of 8 releases. First released on Jun 12, 2012

This deliberately ridiculous third-person action game stars Juliet Starling, a zombie-slaying cheerleader who's almost as handy with a chainsaw as she is with a pair of pom-poms.

Ok, so I like to plan out my game purchases so i can set aside money and whatnot and looking into the near future the only thing I see that I give a damn about is Lollipop Chainsaw. James Gunn Director of Slither, Tromeo and Juliet and of course "PG Porn" and Suda 51 backed by Akira Yamaoka and Jimmy Urine on sound design. Amazing lineup of talent right there.

And all the costumes are great too with stuff from Highschool of the Dead, Manyuu Hikenchou , Evil Dead , Deadman Wonderland and Is this a Zombie? GOD I hope all the anime themed ones come to north america. I'd really like to slash zombies in those Highschool of the Dead costumes. The music looks great , the visuals look great and I'm really hoping the gameplay is as tight as I hope. I dug what Suda did with No More Heroes so he CAN do character action stuff. Really excited for june! Super sad that the Premium Editions aren't coming over to North America.

Yes. Loved Shadows of the Damned and will live this. At this point I'd buy just about anything Suda works on because I want him and Grasshopper to keep making games.

I want to believe!

#4 Posted by Yummylee (18167 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

I dunno, there was an equally high calibur of talent for Shadows of The Damned too. Which was pretty darn funny, but the gameplay was also lacking in a lot of areas and the big boner/2D sections were pretty bad.

#5 Posted by awesomeusername (3172 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

I'd buy it for 30 bucks tops. I'll probably end up getting it for $20 because I have like 15 other games I want to play first and those are all AAA games and it'll be that price by the time I get it. it looks good though and I love Highschool of the Dead! I wish there would be a season 2 so I can watch on Netflix.

I gave No More Heroes a chance and didn't like that the game revolved around pressing A until everyone died. The style seems cool but everything since then has put me off of Suda games, he's even starting to come off as someone whos creative talent extends as far as making games over the top just for the sake of it. That being said I know he has plenty of fans and my opinion doesn't matter. I'd like to give his other games an honest shot but like I said, No More Heroes gave me a really bad impression.

#7 Posted by Demoskinos (9051 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago
@Abyssfull I played through SotD like 4 times. Loved every moment.
#8 Posted by Raven10 (1179 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

I wasn't a huge fan of Shadows of the Damned and I couldn't even get past the first level of Killer7 so I'm not super excited. I appreciate the originality of his games, I just wish he would back it up with actually good gameplay. Most of the time I feel like he puts all his efforts into the story and atmosphere and forgets about making the game fun to actually play. My only experience with No More Heroes was the PS3 port and I don't have a Move controller so I couldn't really control it how it was supposed to be controlled, but it didn't seem fun enough to warrant buying a Move controller for it or anything.

I played the PAX Prime demo last year. The combat was fun, and the boss fight they had on display was hysterical. If the rest of the bosses are up to that level of insanity, then this game will be awesome.

Also, HOTD costume. Fuck yes, I want that.

#10 Posted by SlightConfuse (3963 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

its a suda 51 game of course im hyped. also High school of the dead cosutmes color me intrested. also want the ash costume as well

#11 Posted by Lazyaza (1991 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

I'm pretty hyped but I fully expect this to be a Suda game so 70-80% of it will be great and the rest will be tedious, frustrating and almost broken.

#12 Posted by BabyChooChoo (3579 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

I'm all over this game. It's actually my most anticipated game of the year. I'm probably going to pick a copy for both systems just because I want to support crazy ass creativity anyway I can even if it's busted as shit.

#13 Posted by MikkaQ (9721 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

Yeah I'm pretty excited, there isn't a whole lot else to get hyped up for and I could use some more Suda 51 in my life.

#14 Edited by sickVisionz (1251 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

Cautiously optimistic. It looks like it has all the style and pizzaz of Bayonetta, but Bayonetta was made by the creator of Devil May Cry so you knew the gameplay was going to be solid and it ended up as arguably the best combat in a character action game ever. As far as I know, LC is made by a guy whose games always have a lot of style but tend to be bad to mediocre gameplay. That's what worries me about the title.

Style is awesome but style with bad game play is like making a beautiful layer cake with lovely icing but when you cut a piece of it a bunch of maggots come pouring out of it. LC won't be a day one buy for me unless they do a demo of it or I find some reviews from people who love the gameplay of Bayonetta and they give LC the thumbs up for gameplay.

#15 Posted by Coafi (734 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

I'm not getting my hopes up, even though SotD was pretty cool. Who knows?! Maybe Lollipop Chainsaw will be amazing, I'll just wait for reviews.

#16 Posted by CounterShock (419 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

Might check it out after it comes out and does about 10,000 in NA, and is 15 bucks a month after it comes out.

Was the combat super mashy or more refined? God of War or Bayonetta?

I don't know necessarily how mashy it is in the full game, but it felt more like God of War than Bayonetta to me, though it's honestly more of a No More Heroes analogue.

#18 Posted by AngelN7 (2843 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

It looks like No More Heroes with a chick wich sounds fun, but I don't know how to feel about the whole DLC whore-ish outfits it's DLC I guess so it dosn't really matter but I thought that wasn't what the game was going for I thought it was about mocking THAT kinda cheap 'fan service' crap, but if the writting is good and is fun to play I might try it to pick it up some day also the thing is just bumming me out because is not No More Heroes 3.

CHOO CHOO

I am so on board this train. I can't wait! I loved Shadows of the Damned and No More Heroes, so I am in full-on hype mode.

#20 Posted by Danteveli (798 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

I'm on board - Suda games are most of the time better than big titles so why not try this.

#21 Posted by Phatmac (5266 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

I think it'll be another Shadows of the Damned situation. An average game with some funny antics. Don't think it'll be anything special.

#22 Posted by Vorbis (2746 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

I'm on board, the stuff they have shown and the people behind it has me convinced.

#23 Posted by AdzPearson (194 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

It's one of my hotly anticipated games of this year. I loved Shadows of the Damned. I found it both challenging and a good laugh. If Lollipop Chainsaw covers both of those things (it seems to have humour down, at least), I'll be happy.

...and I completely missed the fact that there's going to be an Ash costume (I knew about the anime ones). Only just found out via this topic. I'm glad, as it always made a lot of sense to me.

#24 Posted by ProfessorEss (6373 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

I wish they'd get a better team to work on gameplay. I love the look and concepts of Suda's games but I have a hard time getting through a game regardless of how well the content is executed when the gameplay is flat.

#25 Posted by Jeust (9622 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

I'm excited, as I liked Shadows of The Damned, and I've found the trailers very funny. Looking forward to it!

#26 Posted by Village_Guy (2099 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

Sure, why not, I loved Shadows of the Damned and anything Suda touches are worth at least keeping an eye on.

#27 Posted by Hector (3207 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

I'm definitely onboard, already preordered it! I bought Shadows of the Damned last year and I wasn't disappointed, I enjoy Suda's work.

#28 Posted by drag (1223 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

nah ... looks pretty boring to me

#29 Posted by ckeats (489 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

I'm on board like you wouldn't believe. I love Suda games and this one looks appropriately bonkers.

#34 Posted by Ravenlight (7104 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

The more I hear about this game, the more it looks pretty good.

#35 Posted by GunstarRed (4037 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

It's the kind of thing I would play. The writing in Shadows was amazing despite the gameplay being kinda shit. I''d like to see how fucked up James Gunns contribution to it is Slither is ace and Super is incredibly disturbing. The soundtrack is a weird mix of rock and old 80's songs and the cheerleading combos are such a great idea i'm surprised nobody has done it before now. Totally with you.

GOTTA GET THAT SUDA CONTRENT!

#39 Posted by morrelloman (570 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

I didn't know there was a a train. Tho I am pretty sure this makes you the defacto conductor. And I just bought my ticket. For the train. Of which you are the conductor. Now boarding. All aboard. Cho Choo me you and Suda too.

As long as there are no turret sequences where she exclaims something like "taste my sweet cookie" every time you shoot. I'm for real all-in on this.

#40 Posted by HelpImUpsideDown (36 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

LITTLE JIMMY URINE!

you know this game will be awesome, even if the gameplay is generic.

#41 Posted by Grillbar (1625 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

im buying it day one so i guess i am

#42 Posted by Galiant (2126 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

I realize there's a market for this game, and I'm glad the game industry is that diverse - but there's no way I'm supporting this game with my money.

#43 Posted by bighat_logan (182 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

but it's a suda 51 game

#44 Posted by Gamer_152 (13257 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

It looks like it could have a really good sense of style and craziness, but with Shadows of the Damned I felt like that game didn't execute as well as it could have on gameplay and feel into a lot of aesthetic sameyness. I usually make it a rule to never get that excited about games that haven't come out yet unless they're part of an established franchise, and I feel like this has the potential to fall into the same traps SoTD did. For now I'm just cautiously optimistic.

Grasshopper are a bastion of beautiful creativity in gaming. They're one of the few studios striving for innovation and for that I respect them wholeheartedly and will buy pretty much anything they put out. Shadows of the Damned was one of my favorite games last year, and Lollipop Chainsaw looks fucking awesome. Suda 51, you're a hero.

As long as it's full of 90's pop-culture references I'm game. I get the feeling this game will live or die based on how funny it is, because it sure as hell can't be taken seriously.

#49 Posted by SlasherMan (1725 posts) - 1 year, 1 month ago

I liked Shadows of the Damned with all its silliness, so sure, count me in.
