Buying a PSP? This is Must-Have Game 0

Lumines (LOO-meh-ness) is an extremely difficult game to explain, but I shall try my best to convey may enthusiasm for this most innovative puzzle game.  At first glance, any gamer will begin to compare Lumines to Tetris.  It is indeed a falling block puzzle game, but that's about where the similarities end.  Coming from the mind of Tetsuya Mizuguchi, the creator of Space Channel 5 and Rez, Lumines is billed as "Puzzle Fusion."  Music plays an integral role in Lumines.  The blocks fall in s...

    Happy Squid 0

I have heard it said that the true mark of genius is when someone looks at your creation and says '“Why didn't I think of that?'” Lumines is a game that many people may say close to the same thing. While a simple concept, the gameplay is quite deep, and the style is off the scale.Lumines is the first puzzle game on the Sony PSP, and much like Tetris, which was released on the original GameBoy, it is a game which may define the portable's life and how it is perceived in the future. Su...

Best Puzzle Game of the Decade. 0

It's been a little over a year since the PSP came out, and now that Lumines 2 is coming out, I had to get the first.. and it was the smartest 20 bucks I've spent in a good while. The gameplay is fairly simple, make a 2x2 square of the same color, and don't let your screen get filled up with blocks... Thats it right?WRONG!... even though the idea on paper sounds bland, the gameplay is EXTREMELY ADDICTIVE, and will have you playing the game for hours. The main mode you'll be playing is challenge m...

A Fresh Take on Classic Puzzling 0

Lumines is, in short, one of the few games all PSP owners should take the time to experience, and probably one of the most acclaimed launch titles on the PSP. It has gone on to spawn ports on many systems and at least one sequel so far, but what's the big deal? Lumines can, and probably will, be related to modern tetris games if someone were to try to describe it on the spot: You're given pieces that will automatically fall from the top of the screen (after a couple of seconds of planning, which...

    Simple Fun 0

It would be difficult to create a list of the most influential games of all time and not put Tetris on there. Invented by Alexey Pajitnov 1985, it’s pretty much single handedly responsible for the success of the Game Boy, and is not doubt the first hit of gaming goodness for many virgin players. I would be surprised to hear I was the only one that played so much that falling blocks started to invade my dreams, making lines in my sleep. Tetris was a phenomenon, and rightly so.Of course the other ...

Very, very good puzzling action on the PSP 0

Lumines is a game which features blocks that fall and then ultimately must be "busted". Yeah, I know what you're thinking, not another Tetris clone? In terms of design, Lumines does owe a lot to Tetris, but compared to most puzzlers and pretty much everything else on the PSP, it is refreshingly different due to it's interesting rhythm element.Design wise, Lumines is a very simple game to get to grips with. Square blocks fall which are composed of four smaller squares. Each smaller square will be...

    Lumines Review 0

Lumines is one of those puzzle games that once you figure out the game you are addicted to. Of course once you are addicted to it you have those monumental moments of frustration, but you can't put the game down. This was pretty close to a launcg title for the PSP, if not one. The simplicity of the controls and the rules made it accessible to many different people. The graphics were too much to stare at, but this game didn't have to be graphically intensive. The different icons that you could setu...

When a puzzle game breaks the mold of tetris 0

Lumines is the culmination of what a puzzle game should be,Addicting,New,Attractive, with a great sound. No matter what your preferences are or whether or not your looking for a puzzle type game, buy this. The sound effects are perfect when interconnected to its little bit out there music. The look, whether it be the color of the blocks or the animation of eliminating 16 blocks are what a puzzle game should look like. The animations are huge without becoming an eyesore after a few hours of play.I n...

I don't get this game at all 0

I think the title sums up the entirety of my feelings for this game.  I played for about 20 minutes and had absolutely no idea where the fun was in this game.  The music was average, the game concept couldn't stand up to the likes of Puzzle Fighter or Tetris, and the actual in-game tutorials were horrible.  Overall, I just didn't have any fun with this game....
