The Lumines franchise first made it's debut on the launch of the Sony PSP in Japan on December 12, 2004, and quickly became known for it's unique twist on the puzzle genre. The Lumines games are known for their music-based puzzle gameplay and constant changing of "skins."

The name Lumines comes from a fictional girl named Lumi, who was born in space on September 11, 2037. She has never been to earth.
