Madden 10 Cover Athlete

EA had originally planed to have one candidate on the cover of Madden NFL 10.  The official cover announcement was made on Friday, April 24th at the NFL Draft.
The candidates for Madden NFL 10 cover athlete were:
  • Adrian Peterson, Running Back (Minnesota Vikings)
  • Ed Reed, Safety (Baltimore Ravens)
  • Ben Roethlisberger, Quarter Back (Pittsburgh Steelers)
  • Brandon Jacobs, Running Back (New York Giants)
  • DeMarcus Ware, Line Backer (Dallas Cowboys)
  • Matt Cassel, Quarter Back (Kansas City Chiefs)
  • Larry Fitzgerald, Wide Receiver (Arizona Cardinals)
  • Peyton Manning, Quarter Back (Indianapolis Colts)
  • Troy Polamalu, Safety (Pittsburgh Steelers)

But instead the cover of Madden NFL 10 is going to have not one, but two players on the cover.  The cover athletes are Larry Fitzgerald, Wide Receiver of the Arizona Cardinals and Troy Polamalu, Safety of the Pittsburgh Steelers.  The cover athletes embrace the motto of Madden NFL 10: "Fight For Every Yard."

First Screenshot of Madden 10

The first screen-shot of Madden NFL 10 reveals a number of changes to the game.
  1. Refs patrol the field.
  2. A chain gang runs on the field to measure first downs.
  3. Super Bowl patches on uniforms.
  4. Super Bowl sidelines display team colors.
  5. Single-digit numbers sit on the yellow line of the Steelers' helmets.  Last year, the number was incorrectly to the right of the stripe.
  6. Enhanced secondary team colors.
  7. Big Ben is now equipped with a towel.  Towel are one of the most requested enhancements.  Gamers are demanding!

Injuries

In Madden NFL 10 injuries have been revamped.  Changes include:

1.    Injury status / severity is delayed instead of immediate for more suspense and realism.
2.    All new animations with trainers and injury carts are shown.
3.    You are automatically prompted to let injured players play hurt (when applicable) or sub in the backup.
4.    Players playing hurt have their ratings negatively affected (based on the severity of the injury).
5.    Players playing hurt have a (logical) risk of re-injury.    Players show that they are hurt with in-game injury animations like limping.
7.    Re-injuries happen realistically instead of randomly.

Thunderbirds

USAF Thunderbirds have been added to Madden NFL 10.  The planes will fly over at the Super Bowl and the Conference Championship games.
