August 10th!
So for me in an hour and a half!
So stoked!
I pre-ordered it yesterday!
I was going to get the collector's edition but instead thought it would be better just to get the game because Id probably look at the book once and forget about it.

Mafia II Demo!
Took about 20 minutes to play through the PC demo. Runs pretty okay on my system, which is surprising. Plays quite well too, though im rather disappointed how much certain things have changed from the first game. Gunfights dont seem even nearly as intense as they used to be.
And yeah, there are playboy collectibles even in the demo, god damn!

(i just had to ask, sorry)
thanks for understanding." @niamahai: Oh yes it does! (No problem, the flesh is weak) "

back on topic:
it's impossible to recapture the same Mafia 1 feel. At least this one would be more "playable" due to
1. health regen (it's health regen rigght?)
2. hopefully no racing mission (Mafia 1 required race mission....)
3. it's authentically Italian!
4. collectable tits (confirmed)
5. nothing to play before Halo Reach
No collectable tits." @niamahai: what about the new kane and lynch. "
@Vitor said:
" Currently in between this and Kane and Lynch 2 - the latter ran pretty poorly on my system so I'm hoping Mafia edges it out performance-wise despite being an open world game. Downloading right now. "
read the 1st review by OXM, said it wasn't as open world as you thought it will be (same with Mafia 1). but that does not mean M2 won't be a fun game!
Is it just heavily scripted and guided or can you actually not explore the whole city ala GTA? The former would likely explain the decent performance as an entire city isn't being rendered but it's totally not what I was expecting (not that I mind - I find most open world games get tedious after a while due to the constant need to travel to the mission start point and the abundance of down time in between the action proper).
" It's up on XBLA. Nice! Not on the UK store :(

The little details are cool as well, like the time period appropriate radio stations. I guess it remains to be seen if the story will be good, that's the only thing (albeit a big thing) that can keep this from being a quality game. I did find your sidekick/friend a little annoying (he must have yelled out Vito at least 30 times during the demo's combat sequence) but that's pretty minor.
Mafia was always a very story focused game so it wouldn't surprise me if it did." Is it just heavily scripted and guided or can you actually not explore the whole city ala GTA? Went for the demo on steam. It's good, didn't really give me anything I hadn't seen before from the videos though.
Didn't go explore the city much though given the timer it smacked in my face. Played good and the vehicles behaves great. I'll definitely buy it if I have some money.
(didn't fancy the lack of a cruise control though, always had a fun depth to the driving with speed limits and a cruise control to that)
Gamespot have a video of the demo here.
Played the demo for a bit on Steam. Seems decent, enjoyed driving around listening to music. The gun combat was solid but not that exciting. PhysX made it more intense because of all the crap flying everywhere. Doubt I'll buy it, in fact I'm just going to say I wont but interesting to try the demo.
I thought you will like to see a few screenshots of the demo. The graphics are good, even though you can't see the detail for small screenshots. Looks alot better than gta 4 and also runs better too.
Played to 360 version and gotta say that technically it's not that impressive, sure there is a lot of attention to detail and models look great etc. But the game runs poorly: under 30fps pretty much the whole time, it makes the shooting and driving more frustrating that it already is. Also i hardly ever mind jaggies and screen-tearing but i gotta say Mafia 2 really suffers from both of those in a big way.
I hope that this is an old e3 demo or something and the technical hiccups are corrected in the final version ( doubt it ). Shame really, cos' both the time period and the story seems interesting and very well put together.

"PC version runs like a dream - I guess the devs previous PC-centric experience probably shows here (the PS2 port of the original was awful from what I've heard also although I don't know whether or not that was an inhouse job or not).
I've got a pretty beefy rig but not a monster by any standard and am getting an average of around 40FPS at 1920x1080 with everything maxed minus AA and Physx (can't even turn on the latter due to the performance hit - the destructible items in game are still pretty well done though, the bullets really feel like they pack a punch on both enemies and your surroundings. Enjoying not having to unload a whole clip into a guy for him to go down - 2 bullets usually does it).
I think I may have just been swayed into choosing this over Kane and Lynch 2 due to the performance.
From the sound of it, it seems its going to be like the first mafia game. As far as the PC being greater than the console versions." I played the PC demo and i gotta say, the shooting and controls felt absolutely perfect. Only thing that bugged me was the lack of specific AA options. I had loads of jaggies even with AA enabled and 1680x1050 resolution. The lighting and models looked amazing though...
Also runs extremely well on my 2 year old rig.
Played the PC version. Game feels good. Boobs. Driving with a keyboard is easy. I really like the feel of the cars, the loose back end is nice, and powersliding is easy. Shooting is fine too, no real complaints there. Performance is good and framerate is stable with APEX turned off, terrible with it turned on (I only have a 9600gt). AA on or off doesn't really seem to make a difference though, it's really jaggy. So far I really like it, though I'm waiting for someone to release a trainer that freezes the timer, before I can really make a judgment on it. I do think there are too many buttons though. A button used exclusively to smash a window? Really? Anyway, looking forward to play the full game.
EDIT: Fiddled around a bit with the settings. Thank god there are subtitles! Tried simulation driving, and it's difficult with a keyboard. Lots of wheel spinning, and the car is all over the place. Oh, and you can die if you crash into something hard enough.
Timer hack found!
Fire up your favorite hex editor, open the Mafia2.exe file, go to offset 000F5380, look for D9 56 4C, change to 90 90 90, save, and fire up the game. I just tested it, and it seems to work just fine. Played for about 20 minutes.
EDIT: Or get my modified .exe from Megaupload.
