I just finished the game and I enjoyed it.  I'm not a fan of collectibles in games.  I'll resort to a guide if I really want them but I usually don't because It detracts from the fun I'd normally have playing the game.  I really have no drive to collect them especially when they have high numbers in such games as GTA IV with the pigons but the nudie pics in Mafia 2 were great.  The obvious reason is these pics are HOT and very classy, but I was motivated to seek out these pics because I was rewarded immediately with some sexy smut.  I applaud 2K for trying something new with the playboy pics.

Azteck brings up a very good point. Well for the most part i don't search for collectables either, unless they have an actual impact  on the game, or unless it comes with an achievement. It'd also make me laugh if your companions would comment on your character collecting random shit in the game.

The Playboy collectibles might of made sense if the magazine had been around during the same timeline as the game.  It  just came off as a cheap ploy to get a few extra units sold in what is the most mediocre game ever made.

I suppose collecting nudie pics beats collecting glowing balls (like in Enslaved of Crackdown)... 
 
Not that there's anything wrong with looking for glowing balls.

I collected all the Playboys in Mafia II as well, because I'm slowly trying to get as many achievements from it as possible.

But I agree with the point of making collecting things interesting at least other than collecting shitty orbs. The rewards system in Mafia 2 is what ALL games should do (not ALWAYS naked women, but dev art, etc).
