Zipper Interactive is making good on the promise of continual support for MAG while crafting SOCOM 4 at the same time. A hearty new $10 downloadable content pack, Interdiction, is due out on June 22, ushering in a fresh 128-player tug-of-war-style gametype, new "heavily improved" heavy armor for each faction, more trophies, in-game rewards, and three neutral maps to enjoy all this "new" on.

    No Caption Provided
The new gametype shares its name with this DLC. To get a bit more specific, Interdiction features two rival factions attacking and capturing three separate command posts. The team that keeps the most command posts the longest wins by virtue of score increases as positions are held. The map neutrality adds a bit of spice to the gametype, ensuring that different sides of the map can be used, and the fact that each squad will have its own APC will certainly keep the action hopping

== TEASER ==Joystiq notes that some players have already unlocked some of the new rewards for Interdiction. If you haven't got them all, or if you're curious about what's left, go ahead and peak below the images of the three maps:  Lake Bayano Spur, Sovot Motorway, and Iron Cree Quarry.

    And here's those rewards.

    Ribbons
    • Jump Start -- Capture 2 Command Posts in a round of Interdiction
    • Mowing the Grass -- Get 10 kills with a vehicle turret in one round
    • Dashed Hopes -- Destroy 2 mines with gunfire in one round
    • Cannonball Rally -- Become an MVP (1st, 2nd, or 3rd) in a round of Interdiction

    Medals
    • Roadside Assistance -- Capture 10 Interdiction control points over your career
    • Landscape Architect -- Get 50 kills with a vehicle turret over your career
    • BOD -- Destroy 20 mines with gunfire over your career
    • Designated Driver -- Earn 5 Interdiction MVPs over your career

    Trophies
    • King of the Hills (Bronze) -- Earn the Roadside Assistance medal while playing Interdiction
    • Red Ball Express (Silver) -- Earn the Designated Driver medal while playing Interdiction
    • Road Runner (Gold) -- Capture 3 Interdiction control points in a single round

Who among you is still playing MAG? Are you ready for more MAG?

Such a terrible game... Everything about it is outclassed by so many other games.

    Quality, not quantity (of players).

It got boring real fast. And new maps sooner would have kept my interest.

mag is fun, it feels slightly different then anything else out there, i think they could have done a better job capitalizing on the extremely high player count though.

mag was... a cool idea bet never met its full potential. the game its self is very good. I think it needed a better UI and matchmaking and clan support or rather better in game hooks for linking un-affiliated players with clans that were recruiting.

MAG was a fun distraction until BFBC2 came out. I find it cute that they think people are still playing.

MAG had such a good chance of being something different in a genre that had lost to COD blandness and repetition. However, the developers have not been quick enough to respond to the gameplay flaws. The map problem has not been addressed and a lot of the early players have just got bored. Having Bad Company 2 release so soon (and look and play so good), stole any sizeable community leaving only the hardcore. Why play MAG when you will have more fun somewhere else?

Losing time after to time on the same map cycle (through no fault of your "team") is like beating your head against a wall. It feels utterly pointless playing the game if the outcome is decided before you start simply by your faction and enemy spawn placement. I've spent a 30 minute match, where my squad hasn't even taking the first objective that was just a short distance from our base.

The level upgrade system is good - allowing you to specialise in the way you play the game - but the grind was a little pointless as it limited your loadout, reducing your flexibility to respond to situations. Team play is also suspect when everyone wants to be a hero. When the action is at the front line, you feel you are missing out on the fun if you are stuck at the back repairing a gate or comms station. Similarly, the commander system worked OK (giving you FRAGO bonus points for achieving a team objective) but relied on the skill of the designated player. Following the orders of someone you don't know can only succeed through ego-less players (and how many of these have you met playing an FPS?)

The large scale is certainly impressive and, when you do get a tight evenly-matched game, it does feel special. I did love running around fixing things and healing my squad (and got major XP doing it) but that is my style. Hopefully they will learn from this, listen to the community and create a better MAG2 - the defibrillator is out, but I don't think they can bring this one back.

This looks like a pretty nice expansion, if only DICE would do something like this for Bad Company 2, but I have a feeling that they abandoned it already for Medal of Honor.

While I enjoyed the big objective-based gameplay in the Beta (before Bad Company 2 came out) I always had this niggling feeling of, "These guns are just not very satisfying to shoot."

I think it was mostly the sound of them. They lacked any "punch", sounding really weak and almost air-rifle like. The "pew pew" sound they used to represent enemy bullets flying past you really didn't help much either.  It's a petty little gripe, I know.

Then I played BC2 with its superb audio work and MAG slipped off my list of games to sink money into, especially after seeing the "MAG Thing" videos on here post-release and finding it had not really got any better.

All that and things like the "medics team-killing and reviving for points"  nonsense got old really fast.

I'm sure it's a completely different game by now, but even this new mode really couldn't convince me to pick it up at this late stage when I can still rely on BC2 to satisfy any objective based FPS needs I currently have.

I've been playing TF2 after working my way about 3/4 of the way up to cap on my second play through.  When this comes out I may or may not jump back into the game.  Not sure.  Though it IS the only shooter I have on my consoles at the moment....

I am glad to hear about it though I wish they had announced it about a month or two ago and I would have been more excited.

I recently bought MAG, three days ago. I am thouroughly enjoying the experience at the moment. I see no reason for me to continue playing this game, it has what i want, gain lvs, new armor, team based gaming, etc.
