Origin
Magneto was created by Stan Lee (writer) and Jack Kirby (artist),the character's first appearance was in X-Men #1 (1963). He is one of the world's most powerful mutants and has the ability to create and control magnetic fields. Magneto is the main villain of the X-Men comic, TV show and the films.
Magneto is a survivor of the Holocaust, in which every other member of his family died, and he firmly believes that it is only a matter of time before normal Humans try to do to Mutants what the Nazis did to the Jews. Therefore, he strives to establish Mutant superiority over Humans, no matter how many people have to die to accomplish this. His powers seem to have no limits as far as metal is concerned, to the point where he is able to affect the adamantium coating Wolverine's skeleton. Magneto once actually removed all the metal from Wolverine's body.
He wears his helmet as a protection from all psychic mutants, particularly Professor X, who was a close friend in their youths. He is the founder of the mutant terrorist group called ''Brotherhood of Evil Mutants" (known as the less ridiculous "Brotherhood of Mutants" in modern comics)
