Makoto is a fighter from Japan who is known for her tomboyish looks and unique karate style.
Overview
Makoto is a young Japanese girl, trained in Rindoukan karate. Since her father's death, Makoto's dojo has been floundering, so she finds Ryu and challenges him to restore her dojo to a flourishing state. She also seems to have some sort of rivalry with Ibuki (during gameplay when Makoto fights Ibuki, there is a special opening to the battle which suggests that they've met before in some capacity). Her fighting style is suggestive of a more traditional style of karate.
She was first introduced in the third iteration of Street Fighter 3, Third Strike, making her one of the last characters to be added to the game. She was originally planned to be Ryu's sister.
Interestingly enough, she is voiced by Makoto Tsumura, who obviously bears the same first name.
Gameplay
Makoto is seen as a quite powerful character, maybe even the best in SF3. She has incredibly fast and damaging moves, and her main staple, Hayate does not knock down an opponent, letting her continue her assault and stun. Her SA1 and SA2 are also extremely damaging, with SA2 being able to stun EVERY CHARACTER IN THE GAME, if finished properly. This, along with her command grab which does almost 25% stun, makes her quite deadly. This leads to many "oh you picked Makoto? Sagat's hoe", but she has an incredibly slow walking speed and a lack of anti-air options.
Special Moves
- Hayate - Makoto's go to move, has an easy hadouken motion. Has her raise a fist to shoulder level, and quick-as-lightning dash forward into an opponents face. It does not knock down however, resulting in an incredibly powerful mixup of low attacks linked into it. The punch button can also be held down to delay the dash.
- Fukiage - Makoto does a stand still upward punch, similar to many characters low hardpunch. Most commonly used after he SA2 to make sure the opponent is stunned.
- Karakusa - Makoto's command grab is incredibly effective. She grabs the opponent, holds them off their feet for a second and crunches their neck/collar bones. This also leads the opponent in a dazed faze, allowing for a followup combo. That, plus its incredibly high stun, makes her very scary against opponents who turtle and block.
- Oroshi - What the hell?! Makoto has all these options, AND a command overhead attack? Yup, this has her do a incredibly fast downward karate chop hitting crouched opponents, making turtling opponents even worse off.
- Tsurugi - An in-air only move, Makoto amazingly roundhouses an opponent with a overhead kick.
Super Moves
- Seichusen-Godanzuki - Makoto does a quick punch, followed by a blazingly fast combo of punches, followed by a upward punch which knocks the opponent down. Her most damaging super.
- Abare-Tosanami - Oh Makoto, how I hate you. This Super has her leap backwards to the side of screen, jump off the wall with a angled kick, followed by a bunch of hits, finishing with a Fukiage thats launches the opponent into the air. However, if the Makoto player is quick enough, she can dash under them and do ANOTHER Fukiage. If the SA2 was comboed into from a Karakusa grab, this is almost a guanteed stun to over 75% of Sf3 cast. Has 3 different versions, LK moving at a very steep download angle, MK hitting midscreen or so, and HK going the full screen.
- Tenden-Renki - Another unique super, Makoto "powers up" into a red rage, making all of her moves do quite a bit more damage. However, she cannot block at all during this, so it's very much a risk-reward move. She can still parry, so confident players may opt to use this in less serious matches.
