Finished watching the Mario Party 9 TNT and...well that does not look good. I have a good collection on Nintendo games from every console but I am missing some Mario Party games. So Giant Bomb, what is the best party? Should I stick with N64 games or the early GameCube? Is it worth getting one for each console or are the N64 games different enough to justify two games for my collection?

EDIT: I counted the posts and ended up with this. Mario Party 2 wins...Fatality.

The Mario PartyPercent
Mario Party8%
Mario Party 246%
Mario Party 331%
Mario Party 412%
Mario Party 53%

The one with the wild west board, and hootenannies. I think it was 2

Mario Party 2. It's the Empire Strikes Back of Mario Parties.

I like the sound of that.

Which is the one that had me rip skin off my hand to win?

#9 Posted by destruktive (1063 posts) - 1 year, 2 months ago

Thanks for asking this as I was wondering about it too.

So far, it seems like 2 wins.

Mario Party 2, remembering all the great times I had with friends.

2.

I think I remembered loving 2 or 3 quite a lot.

I just looked up the Mario Party franchise page. It seems Mario Party 3 was the first with Story Mode.

Which one had the best Story Mode? I wouldn't mind playing a little Mario Party by myself. Unless they all suck.

You're all wrong. It is 5, you assholes! FIVE!

#15 Posted by InfiniteSpark (221 posts) - 1 year, 2 months ago

Agreed with everyone else here, 2 was the best. 3 was good too.

#16 Posted by supermike6 (3503 posts) - 1 year, 2 months ago

2 was the best, 3 is a close second.

#17 Posted by xyzygy (8782 posts) - 1 year, 2 months ago

I'm just curious, why is 2 the best? What makes it better than the others?

#18 Posted by Emperor_Jimmu (249 posts) - 1 year, 2 months ago

The depth of 6 would blow you away. Those tech trees...

Uther Party.

The best part bout Mario Party 2 is how they recycle mini games from the first game.

2 or 3

#22 Posted by Guided_By_Tigers (8020 posts) - 1 year, 2 months ago

3 was my favorite.

#23 Posted by FluxWaveZ (18013 posts) - 1 year, 2 months ago

Mario Party 3 was the best, with 2 following closely behind it.

#24 Posted by Robot_Sneakers (409 posts) - 1 year, 2 months ago

2 for me, I liked the wild west board.

#25 Posted by Phatmac (5293 posts) - 1 year, 2 months ago

The correct answer is none of them, cause they suck.

#26 Posted by TooWalrus (11971 posts) - 1 year, 2 months ago

Either 1 or 4

#27 Posted by Icicle7x3 (949 posts) - 1 year, 2 months ago

2 is the best, 4 is the worst.

#28 Posted by Tan (414 posts) - 1 year, 2 months ago

I'd say 2 but 3 did have that funky rpg thing...

The dark second act.

#30 Posted by evanbower (1059 posts) - 1 year, 2 months ago

The best Mario Party was Fuzion Frenzy. Anyone? No?

#31 Posted by FavoritoBandito (169 posts) - 1 year, 2 months ago

I absolutely loved 2 when I was younger

#32 Posted by PeasantAbuse (4826 posts) - 1 year, 2 months ago

It's all about 3.

#33 Posted by addictedtopinescent (3645 posts) - 1 year, 2 months ago

Lol I have no idea how you guess can tell those games apart, it's been a really long time since I've played any of them and they're all the same basically. Anyways, I do like some mario party, fun times

Well it is Bill Gates's favorite game

#35 Posted by DonutFever (3032 posts) - 1 year, 2 months ago

2 or 4/5 (Whatever the first GameCube one was)

#36 Posted by RetroVirus (1121 posts) - 1 year, 2 months ago

Mario Party 2 was the best. Night and day cycles and that one map with the huge cannon in the middle of it.

#37 Posted by MocBucket62 (705 posts) - 1 year, 2 months ago

I'll go with 3 because that was my first Mario Party and I loved it as a kid. I never played 2 but I wish I did.

#38 Posted by mrcraggle (1190 posts) - 1 year, 2 months ago

Does anyone remember that Sonic the Hedgehog Mario Party rip off? I can't remember what it was called though.

Sonic Shuffle!

Oh man was MP9 hard to look at. I'm all for changes to the format, but there's only so much foam you can put on that nerf bat until you can't swing it anymore. I don't know how they made it more boring that Fortune Street.

But yea, it was either MP2 or 3 that was the best. I think MP2 had a legitimately interesting story mode to it that they never really touched upon again.

MP1 was just the death of all our palms, still great though for the time.

#41 Posted by Lokno (377 posts) - 1 year, 2 months ago

Probably not the first one, that one burned of my palms. Most memorable, though!

#42 Posted by Bulby33 (422 posts) - 1 year, 2 months ago

Dudes, the first Mario Party is the best Mario Party.

#43 Posted by DillonWerner (1514 posts) - 1 year, 2 months ago

The only Mario Party I played was 4, so I'll have to go with that one.

#44 Posted by mosespippy (2697 posts) - 1 year, 2 months ago

How has no one said Fortune Street yet?

#45 Posted by MikkaQ (9753 posts) - 1 year, 2 months ago

I'm glad people here have the right idea, 2 is definitely the one to go with.

#46 Posted by chocolaterhinovampire (1119 posts) - 1 year, 2 months ago

2 or 4

#47 Posted by Bleeble (93 posts) - 1 year, 2 months ago

They are all essentially the same, so I don't know how anybody could pick which one is best.

#48 Posted by Example1013 (4457 posts) - 1 year, 2 months ago

3 or 4

#49 Posted by Dimsey (872 posts) - 1 year, 2 months ago

I've only played 1 and 8. So I guess my favorite out of those two is 1.

#50 Posted by BjornTheUnicorn (353 posts) - 1 year, 2 months ago

I remember 5 or 6 had a really cool minigame (outside of the board game) that was car-combat esque and had unlockables and stuff. Also if 8 is cheap it's not very good but there's a Monopoly type board that's really cool.
