A metaphor for social security or health insurance. Pay up all your coins you get a 1 up that you may use in the future but who knows by then you could have turned the game off.

Wow...I never actually thought about him putting his fist in the air to break the bricks...I'm having some crazy epiphany over here. Now that I think back on all the Mario games, I can totally see the animation of him putting is hand in the air...crazy.

Still after about the 2nd or 3rd time of Peach getting kidnapped by Bowser, you'd think Mario would react differently in every game past that so apparently something is broken in Mario's thought process.
