Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds
Game » consists of 10 releases. Released Feb 15, 2011
After a decade-long hiatus, Marvel vs. Capcom 3 continues the popular crossover fighting game series characterized by fast-paced gameplay, complex tag teams, and elaborate combos.
Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Scoops Into Stores February 15th
Alongside the announcement of the game’s proper release date, Capcom has also unveiled the Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Special Edition package, and if you’re looking to make MvC your fighting game of choice for 2010, it may actually make sense to pony up the additional $10 for the package. No, it’s not because of steel book case included with the package (though, I have to admit, I do love me a metal case). Nor is it the prologue comic that will explain the story behind the collision of worlds in the game (though I’m sure it’s hilarious.). It’s not even the free 1-month subscription to Marvel’s Digital Comics platform (a $10 value!) that might convince you to spring for the package.
No, the main reason the Special Edition might be the way to go Is that it includes a free voucher for the first two DLC characters being added to Marvel vs. Capcom 3. If you’re confident enough in MvC’s quality to lay down the extra $10 up front (or you’re just going to own that game, regardless of what anyone says) you’ll gain free access to two returning MvC2 fighters: Resident Evil protagonist Jill Valentine (which, when grouped up with new MvC edition Chris Redfield, will make for a fun RE1 team), and crazy eyeball/tentacle/morphing anomaly/cyclops Shuma-Gorath. It's worth pointing out that you won't have access to those characters out of the gate; Jill and Shuma-Gorath won't be released for about four weeks after the game's February launch date, so save your Jill Sandwich jokes until March.
Now, if we only knew the full character roster for MvC3, we’d really be all set. But yeah, that ain’t happening. Expect Capcom to keep trickling out the rest of the game’s core roster in the lead-up to the February launch date.
Also, expect the places where you see those character announcements to get more bizarre as well. Like just yesterday, when Capcom unveiled that Zero and She-Hulk were the latest additions to the character list... with each character revealed exclusively by a different online publication. Though, to be fair, I hear Giant Bomb is working on a deal with Capcom to announce a character’s elbows, as well as the vowels in their name, at a time closer to MvC3's release. Stay tuned!
Oh, and here's the Marvel vs. Capcom 3 box art:

Oh, and here's the Marvel vs. Capcom 3 box art:
DLC Characters 3 months before the game comes out? Is that a world record?
Was the previous record Gearbox for announcing Zombie Island the day before Borderlands came out?
Ryu and the Hulk have the very same face on the box art. I don't like that.
Game should be great though!!
That box art would be acceptable if it wasn't for the Hulk's and Morrigans' faces. Jesus Christ. Looks like something you'd find on DeviantArt.
Jill and Shuma are cool. Shame that picture indicates that Jill has her unexplained blond hair.
You're not exactly keeping up with this game, are you? Dante and Amaterasu were confirmed months ago." Woah, is that Amaterasu off of Okami I see on the box? Shit be crazy 'cause she's a WOLF! Also Dante. Or is it Nero? They look waaaay too similar. "
" Wait, they're announcing DLC characters before they announce all the retail characters?Well done.
I WANNA TAKE YOU FOR A RIDE "
" Spiderman needs to be bigger. It's a damn shame the webslinger gets demoted to the wee-lil'-pic status. "That's the state of the character in our culture anymore. He's been totally overshadowed by other Marvel staples in recent years.
Wow, looks like I'm gonna be cussing out Deadpool. Dante, and Hulk sooner than I thought.
What a wonderful world.
It's nice to have a final release date for this game, now we just Mega Man to be announced and I'm set.
Ugg, already announcing DLC characters and including them as a bonus for special edition... that seems like a few steps worse than what we've seen with FPSes offering special guns for pre-orders / special edition =/
Also, that box art.... *shudders* Me thinks they've never actually seen Chun Li, Ryu, Morrigan, or the Hulk before and just drew from description... Then again Capcom and bad box art are nothing new...
Ugly ugly euro boxart alert! Let's hope the US gets a good one, especially for the LE. @Smiley26 said:

I really like the cast of characters, besides Shulk it seems like everything will be fine. Besides the whole no Mega Man thing.
" "Scoops" Into stores? Are you even trying anymore...? "you understand that scoops is a common term in the marvel community?
Jill Valentine was always one of my mains in MvC2, so I'm absolutely buying the special edition. Steel case/comic/online thingy (like the one I never used that came with my copy of MvC2 on PS3) are nice additions, but the DLC is what I want. Even if charging for characters that probably could've been included in the game anyway is pretty bogus.
" Ugly ugly euro boxart alert! Let's hope the US gets a good one, especially for the LE."It clearly says NTSC at the top. Sorry bub, but thats yours.
wow, thats earlier than I thought for a release on the game. I thought they said spring, not sure if this could be good or bad considering how I'm still not comfortable with the roster revealed so far or the voice acting, god that announcer sounds so lame.
Oh man, totally missed the announcement of Zero in the game. I was already sold based on the looks of the game and the greatness of the previous ones, but having Zero, Deadpool, and Wesker playable was the best possible frosting on the cake!
Can we keep bitching about this box art? yes? ok....
Dear Lord this is terrible, it's not even symmetrical the Marvel characters are well over the vertical center. Wesker is the only one without a mask that looks like his real face. Dante looks like he's enjoying some disco. Someone clearly spent too much time on Wolverine's abs to look at the bigger picture here.
Finally, something worthwhile happening in Feb!
No way I'm buying this game. If they announce DLC characters already, 4 months (!) before the release then there is no excuse for not including them in the game. How the hell will this be balanced if not all players have a level playingfield? I don't like this at all and I won't pick this game up. I don't like getting shafted like that.
between the 50% off deal and the backlog of preorder credit i have from Amazon.com this game'll cost me $10 on launch...and with the $10 credit i get if i preorder it i'll practically be free for me.
So i will more then likely be getting it even though i'm godawful at fighting games.
That's too bad, so I guess Japan might get good box art then. I have seen the PAL version too with the same art. I hope like SSF4 they try to change it before release...but how did this even come to be? Who decided this art work appeals to the eye and you know...doesnt look slapped together by some 11 deviant art kid and is generally aesthetically pleasing?" @Dan_CiTi said:

Seeing as the DLC characters come out FOUR WEEKS AFTER THE GAME DOES. It isn't release date DLC. But yeah maybe they will be fun to play as." Ffffff...on one hand, I hate the release-date DLC. On the other hand, I really would like to play with a team of Jill, Chris and Wesker. Goddammit Capcom...
