I think these are the canon answers, going by the reaction they got:

    Wrex lives
    Ashely lives
    Kadien Dies
    The Rachni will be dead
    Council will have survived

I think thoses are the major ones...

    Wrex lives.
    Kaiden dies.
    Ashley lives.
    The Rachni survive.
    The Council bite it.

At least that's how things went down for me Shepard.

Well, I think they can solve these problems in the stages of character-creation, much like when you choose your background-story for Shepard in Mass Effect 1.

That is, if you're creating a character from scratch. Resulting in something like this:

Paragon (when creating a new character your choices in the background-story falls into the category of a good-guy)
    Wrex lives.
Ashley lives, Kaiden dies (or the opposite, depending on wether your playing a male or female Shepard, based on the lovestory-thingy).
    The Rachni survive.
    The Council survive.

Renegade (when creating a new character your choices in the background-story falls into the category of a rough-guy)
    Wrex dies.
Ashley lives, Kaiden dies (or the opposite, depending on wether your playing a male or female Shepard).
    The Rachni dies.
    The Council dies.

The one choice that leaves me a bit confused though is the part when you (Shepard) suggests either Udina or Andersson to be a part of the Council.
As I'm writing this I realize how complex this is. So maybe my suggestions were a bit too simple (DOH!). But I have faith in BioWare, they will solve this stuff one way or the other.

Guess that does not affect me anyways. I have four different Shepards in store for Mass Effect 2.
And what retard would not play the first ME before throwing themselves into the follow-up?
Talk about a waste, missing out on a fantastic game like that.

No. It as sure as hell won't go by "canon" if you don't have a Mass Effect 1 save. They'll find some way to find out what decisions you would've made.
