Bioware just announced it at Gamescom. I don't really understand why they'd port the second one but not the first, especially when the decisions and things are such a huge part of the trilogy.

Is a silly decision. But oh well, more revenue for Mass Effect 3 at least.

Wasn't this known when the game came out? Pretty sure it was

So how are they going to make things work without the first game? Will you by able to pick the choices you made in the first game or will everyone have to play with Wrex dead?

Chances are sooner or later they will release the 1st one. But for now chances are it will just follow not having a saved game.

Not porting the first one seems like a rather stupid thing to do. The series is popular because of its story and how the choices you make affect the game. They should port both and sell it in a bundle. ah well, good for PS3 owners I suppose.

As long as Sony doesn't force BioWare to give ME2 (good) exclusive content on PS3 (aside from any extended prologues to address the possible lack of ME1 on the system), I'm fine with this.

This gonna be hell.
Now we'll have fanboys killing each other which version is prettier or plays better.
Mass Effect is a piece of art which should be above this crap.
Bah.

So far I have seen no fighting.

It's not as if ME2 didn't function on the 360 if you didn't have an ME1 save.

I suppose MS had a years exclusivity on it. Maybe they'll have time to expand the prologue or whatever to compensate for the lack of the original. I'm sure there'll be extra content packed in.

I'm happy it's here anyway. It's one franchise i've wanted to try. I might have to see how ME1 fares on my laptop closer to release.

There is the Sony press conference up later so maybe they are saving Mass Effect 1 for that, I doubt it but you never know.

It's been announced 10 minutes, the internet ain't that bad :P

Cool for PS3 owners i guess. Seems stupid to port ME2 first though.

EA have continuously said fuck you to Microsoft with the latest reveals of improved packages sold to the PS3 so that comes as little surprise.

They probably announce a blu-ray package in the likes of what they did for MOH at E3 so a special edition with ME1 included sounds likely.

#18 Posted by Grissefar (2830 posts) -

Only Mass Effect 2? Then I can't play it. It would be silly to play 2 without playing 1.

This is awesome news indeed, especially because I only own a PS3 and a Wii.

Wonder if it will come packed with the current DLC items.

#24 Posted by Master_Funk (744 posts) -

Im fine with not having mass effect 1 ported as it is kinda obselete in terms of gameplay now that me 2 changed everything. Anyway as long as they give you the option to keep rex alive, Im happy

#25 Posted by MiamiRedHawks (914 posts) -

They should pair the first one up with it, but I've already played these games so whatever.

#26 Posted by Jazz (2328 posts) -

I wonder if it'll be a bundle of both games. They could easily fit both on to one blu ray with all the DLC.
..
but that would hardly be as economically gratuitous as releasing both separately for full price

#27 Posted by ProfessorEss (7540 posts) -

Awesome news for PS3 owners, tho like others have mentioned the news would be better if included Mass Effect 1 coming over too.

#28 Posted by RobotHamster (4178 posts) -

Not porting the first one is kind of weird but hey at least its coming to the ps3 right.

#29 Posted by EVHKwick (452 posts) -

Glad to see more people will be able to play it. I'm surprised it took this long.

#30 Posted by Lawrens (688 posts) -

I would double dip if they bundled it with ME1 and the DLCs, I guess I was expecting too much!

Why is it silly? Besides the fact that PS3 owners still can't play ME1. But I guess now more people can revel in the beauty that is ME2.
#32 Posted by Cubic (171 posts) -

I wonder if they could make it possible to transfer a ME1 PC save game to the PS3 and have it get the decisions from that. I don't care that much for ME2 since I've played it twice on the PC, but if this implies ME3 might come to the PS3 one day it would be nice to transfer my PC ME2 save(s).

#33 Posted by Hitchenson (4682 posts) -

As far as I'm aware, wasn't the first Mass Effect published by Microsoft whereas the second was EA? Surely that explains the lack of the first getting ported as well.

First was published by both.
#35 Posted by Demyx (3237 posts) -

I hope ME1 comes with it. I have both on PC and I don't run it on high, so a PS3 version would be awesome. Then again, I played both to death so I might not get it.

YAY

#36 Posted by bitcloud (646 posts) -

It doesn't matter who published it, what does matter is they keep the ip rights. It seems like MS doesn't know how to keep anything actually exclusive except right out buying the entire ip so anything goes even if it's been published by them, except Halo.

THE XBOX 360 VERSION IS BETTER HURR DURRR

Because one of the major highlight of ME2 is seeing your choices cross over from the original. It would make sense for them to release them both as apart of a pack, instead of just ME2.

That's pretty awesome. Still kind of want to play the first one though before I play the second, but hey, better than nothing.

#40 Posted by MetalGearGeorge (214 posts) -

I am very happy i will be able to play Mass Effect 2 on the ps3 but what about part1? Apart from that flame wars between fanboys should come to an end after all Bungie and Insomniac are going multiplatform and Xbox fanboys got ff13 and are going to get MGS:Rising. Stop whinning!

#41 Posted by MacEG (257 posts) -

This is awesome. Bioware should have done this a while ago. Don't have a PS3 but I find myself recommending games to friends who only have PS3s.

#42 Posted by Meteora (5789 posts) -

As long as the PS3 content doesn't have more than the 360; I'm fine with it.

#43 Posted by bitcloud (646 posts) -
@MetalGearGeorge: Insomniac opened a second studio to do multiplats, Rising is a spin off which I am still getting. Don't be such a Debbie Downer.
#44 Posted by Druminator (1690 posts) -

Good news. Been waiting to play this.

#45 Posted by MetalGearGeorge (214 posts) -
@bitcloud:  Dude who is Debbie Downer?

Being a massive ME fan and having all my save files from ME1 and 2 on my 360... this doesn't really concern me. But at the same time if you didn't have a PC or 360, this is awesome because it's the best series (IMO) in video games. Well, it won't really be a series for the PS3 because it'll be incomplete, but whatever.

If I had a PS3 only though, I would be pissed because I couldn't see all the cool shit from ME1 and then in turn, the stuff from ME1 that affects ME3. (Like the Rachni, probably the thing I'm most excited for and I was hoping to see in ME2)

Regardless, if you have a PC or a 360 you should get either of those version for the ME1 stuff. This probably won't sell very well because most people who wanted the games have already played them, but it just shows how good Bioware is to it's fans.

yeah, and I would be mad if they packed in all the dlc. I've spent way too much money on that stuff.
#48 Posted by Yasihiko (33 posts) -

If you really want the full experience, as Shoemaker put it in his review, you really need to play both parts to get the most out of the series.  Mass Effect 1 most likely won't hit a PS3 anytime ever since it was published by Microsoft.  You should look into getting it on PC.

#49 Posted by mikesira (168 posts) -

Mass Effect 1 is still probably under a exclusivity agreement with MS because it was developed before the EA partnership and the now "timed" exclusive Mass Effect 2 was probably a courtesy arrangement not to piss off MS, that's my guess anyway. Just hope the port to ps3 doesn't take any development efforts from Mass Effect 3.
BTW does anyone know how many teams Bioware have, they are developing a lot o games simultaneous.

Ugh Microsoft published the first Mass Effect, so the chances of it coming to the PS3 are slim to none.
