Mass Effect 2 Weapons DLC Out Today

Posted by BradNicholson (812 posts) -

I've got no up-front complaints about the latest Mass Effect 2 DLC because...guns. This afternoon, the Firepower Pack dropped on XBLM and PC, ushering in three new weapons to the masterful sci-fi RPG for the price of 2 bones (or 160 Microsoft Banana Bucks).

I can't complain because weapon DLC doesn't carry with it the promise of meaningful narrative ties, fresh dialogue, or compelling design like other bigger packs such as Overlord have in the past. In fact, the only thing it promises is padding your armor locker with some serious firepower. And I'd say The Phalanx hand cannon, Mattock semi-automatic rifle, and Geth Plasma Shotgun--a triple-barreled beast--might do just that.

Need to see before you dive in? Good thing you're reading this. Below are some sick images of the guns in action. I think I'm in love with at least two of these.

Is this pack have all unique guns? One of the older packs had a preorder/digital deluxe/new purchase bonus in it, and it made people who forked out more/earlier than others have a devalued dlc.

Edit: Oh duh, I just read the list there, looks like it's all new stuff.

People still play this game?\

I feel like this would have sold hella lot more if they released it 5 months ago.  Are people really going to buy this just because?  Or they just need another excuse to play this game again?

@CaptainFish: I hate you.
#5 Posted by Jost1 (2078 posts) -

I dunno man. Doesn't seem worth when the game is already near-perfect as it is

#6 Posted by BigChief (503 posts) -

I haven't really gotten into the item packs much, not very interesting. Still anticipating the Shadow Broker DLC though!

#8 Posted by NoXious (1353 posts) -

The hand-cannon looks slick! Semi-automatic rifle too.
Not a fan of the shotgun, personally. Will probably buy this because I bought all the other DLC without diggin in yet. This would make my insane playthrough of everything more bearable.

"Capitalism. Capitalism never changes." (oh, sorry wrong game!)

#10 Posted by spellenberg (7 posts) -

Looks very cool.

#11 Posted by yawn341 (3 posts) -

Those weapons look cool and I loved Mass Effect 2, but I don't think I'm willing to put down any money for DLC that's not story related, even if it is only 2 dollars.

#12 Posted by Yummylee (22576 posts) -

...I'll buy.

#13 Posted by Waffles13 (611 posts) -

Zero interest in this. Why don't they just hold the DLC for a month or two a piece, then sell it all as one big pack for more money? Even if the overall cost remained the same, I know that I would instinctively feel better about buying a couple big and bloated DLCs than a bunch of tiny and insignificant ones.

Sold.

Been happy with the guns already in ME2, if I was playing it more I'd put the MS points to kasumi or other packs that have more to them than just sci-fi boomsticks.

#16 Posted by Vonocourt (2168 posts) -

Haven't bought any of the dlc missions, so I definitely won't buy a weapon pack.

#17 Posted by MarkWahlberg (4610 posts) -

Guess I should probably get around to playing that...

#18 Posted by Bacchus (106 posts) -

Will there ever be a GOTY edition?

#19 Posted by Bigrhyno (505 posts) -

Once the Liara pack comes out I'll probably pick up all the packs I have missed lately and finish up the other 300 points of achievements I need. Definitely interested in some new weapons. I liked the ones that were already in the game, but there were too few in my opinion.

all this DLC is great for those that bought the game used

#21 Posted by GMhawk (14 posts) -

Sure, why not?

#22 Posted by Faint (833 posts) -

a guns pack and no new story or missions to go with it. what about if you've finished everything already?

#23 Posted by Skrams (275 posts) -

Gun DLC? Are there people who pay money just for more guns?

#24 Posted by UberExplodey (943 posts) -

Fuck. alright, back to my insanity run.

#25 Posted by Afroman269 (7387 posts) -

I'll pick it up,  I can do with more weapons to help me with Insane.

#26 Posted by Gnorbooth (288 posts) -

As someone who just purchased this (God I love me some Mass Effect weaponry)...all I can say is HOLY SHIT to the new pistol.  Thing is beastly.  New assault rifle is pretty BA as well.

#27 Posted by HatKing (6122 posts) -

I would enjoy this if it were included with the Shadow Broker DLC or something of the like.  I guess I just don't see the value in weapon/armor DLC when there is nothing left to use them in.  Maybe I'll look at this once the Shadow Broker DLC is released.

2 bones for 3 weapons is too much

#29 Posted by MystDragon3k (119 posts) -

Ive already played this game to death...but gosh darn you Bioware, you always find ways to drag me back in!

#30 Posted by Scratch (628 posts) -

Well just in time for my second playthrough I guess.

#31 Posted by Blubba (527 posts) -

Just more of a reminder that I need to play ME2

#32 Posted by yevinorion (710 posts) -

That shotgun looks boss, might be time to get back and finish up my third playthrough and the Overlord DLC I missed.

#33 Posted by GoatStatik (41 posts) -

 Woot!

#34 Posted by S0ndor (2716 posts) -

Nah, gimme some Liara

#35 Posted by Eversor (25 posts) -

2 bucks for three guns? Not too costly, might get it at some point.

#36 Posted by DrHawking (211 posts) -

Would be cool if I already wasnt so burned out on the story.

#37 Posted by Cornman89 (1579 posts) -

Jesus Christ look at that thing.

I might be into it if I already hadn't cleared the game thrice. Maybe I'll pick it up when the Liara thing drops.

#38 Posted by BergDK (270 posts) -

Don't know what's more sad...? The fact that people actually buy these shit dlc or that news sites are promoting said shit dlc!

#39 Posted by Nickness534 (75 posts) -

God damn it! Once again, the price of ME2 DLC is exactly how much MSP I have left.

#40 Posted by BetonneTom (113 posts) -

biowware has sort of lost me with al this dlc, sorta springs to mind that this is not the way to do dlc. i loooved the game and cannot wait until the 3rd one. but it sorta feels like no one is really waiting for this stuff. for me every rpg should just blatantly ripp off fallout as far as i'm concerned

#41 Posted by Royale (158 posts) -

Are people still playing this game?  I might make it back for a second trip through in a few months, but I doubt I'll pick up any of the DLC.

#42 Posted by truewhipsnade (11 posts) -

Kinda think this should of been free DLC. It's not going to change the dynamic of gameplay as they aren't 'super' guns, just different types. Even if it's 160 points, I'd prefer to spend 560 on that plus a whole load more like the Overlord DLC.

Yes! i made the clever unintentional decision to stop playing halfway through when it came out, come back now and get all this DLC. I'm loving ME2 more than i ever have.
#44 Posted by Winternet (8059 posts) -

If it helps me go through Insane . . .

#45 Posted by Scenium (14 posts) -

That Assault Rfile looks sweet. But I haven't played the Kasumi or Overlord packs yet.

#46 Posted by EXCellR8 (98 posts) -

I'm always down for additions in the arsenal!

#47 Posted by Espiox (24 posts) -

I'll possibly grab this when I get all the other DLC later in the year. I'm gonna play it all at once.

#48 Posted by PK_Koopa (583 posts) -

Wait, why the hell haven't I BOUGHT this game yet?!

brb buying Mass Effect 2.

All-DLC-pack please.

But I guess it's going to go like it always does, a GOTY and no DLC-pack, just to screw with the early adopters who paid most for the party.
