    Short but Sweet 0

The idea of paying for new downloadable content for our games is still a young idea. There is still always that question of of how much should one pay for a set of maps or two hours of new single-player content. The question comes to my mind over Mass Effect 2's new downloadable character, Kasumi.  One thing to note about the DLC pack is it's length. I beat it in under a hour. €7 ($7) for just under a hour of content isn't the most pleasing of prices. It all really depends on how much you value ...

Serviceable, if still disappointingly unremarkable. 6

With the release of the Arrival, the long and enduring tale within Mass Effect 2 is now finally over. Naturally there exist plenty of threads lingering towards the upcoming Mass Effect 3, but that's a whole other chapter for this arc, for when the Reapers actually arrive (SPOILERS?!?).Unfortunately, Arrival, despite being labelled as the final DLC to bridge the gap between the two games (Lair of the Shadow Broker being the other) doesn't really push much of the impeding invasion plot forward, an...

In short, it's arguably the best Mass Effect 2 DLC thus far. 6

Just like old times, eh Shepard?Oh Mass Effect 2...just when will you end?? As far as BioWare as concerned it's long after you've completed the main game. Downloadable content has been coming out for ME2 at a steady stream, starting off with a few small tid bits like new weapons and armour pieces, to then eventually bringing you new vehicles, party members and now... Liara Tsoni!Lair of The Shadow Broker will have seasoned Mass Effect players all cluttered with goosebumps while the newer Command...

Mass Effect 2 Arrival DLC Review: Ends with a whimper 2

Arrival deals with, yes the arrival of the reapers into the galaxy. Shepard infiltrates a Batarian prison in an effort to rescue a human agent who has evidence of the incoming reaper threat. You play alone without your squad from the game in what amounts to a corridor crawl. No new characters of interest are introduced and there are no significant decisions or revelations made in this dlc. Unlike lair of the shadowbroker, you do not have a love interest with you this time. This greatly disappoin...

    A Bioware masterpiece 0

Mass Effect 2 feels like a very personal game, it makes you care about your crew members by having amazing dialogue options and writing, with so really great voice acting for a video game at its time. You start right after the end of the first game, and some things go wrong, making Sherpard go into a coma for 2 years. When he wakes up, he discovers that the people who saved him are from Cerberus, which is a independent company who were kind of one of the bad guys in the first game. But they have ...

    Good emotional sidequest 0

I really liked the Normandy crash site side quest, as it was not about shooting or achieving an objective, but an act of remembrance and honor to the people who died on the Normandy and to the ship itself, which was reasonably emotionally important to the Shepard character and Joker, the ship's pilot.  My favorite part was Navigator Pressly's logs of his opinion of having aliens on the Normandy change to a point where he would "die for any of them". That, coupled with the Normandy memorial statu...

Overlord is over fast and a little overpriced 0

The latest DLC for Mass Effect 2 touts 5 new areas as one of it's main selling points, which should probably tell you something right off the bat. ME2 was hardly a game lacking in areas as far as I'm concerned, so telling me I get 5 more doesn't exactly get me pumped. The mission in Overlord starts like most of the DLC so far, you get an e-mail from Martin Sheen telling you to head out to yet another Cerberus F'up. Upon arriving on the planet, you learn that the latest experiment in Virtual Inte...

Kasumi steals the crown for the best ME2 loyalty mission! 0

Stolen Memory has to be taken in the context for which it was so obviously intended.  Not as simply a bonus mission.  Nor as "The Further Adventures of Indiana Shepard", but as an extra character for your suicide team.  And a bad-ass addition Kasumi is!  You see this sexy and mysterious thief can turn invisible!   " A-ha!" I hear you say, " My Infiltrator Shepard can turn invisible!"  Well, can your Shepard turn invisible, sneak up behind an enemy in a fire fight, stab that dude in the back and ...

No joke, the best Bioware DLC period 1

There's times where I don't quite like what Bioware does with their downloadable content. Ever since the original Mass Effect had 2 pretty mediocre DLC releases, it's like they almost got offended and they went crazy bringing out one after another not only for Mass Effect 2 but for Dragon Age: Origins. However that created another issue: their new DLC plans haven't been exactly stellar since they just come out with a huge ton of content yet they feel somewhat insubstantial, not quite as bad as b...

Bye bye Mako. Hello hover tank!!! 0

As free DLC goes.., hey wait a minute, why is this free anyway?  I wouldn't hesitate to drop some MS points for Firewalker.    Let's break it down.  The Mass Effect 2 DLC Firewalker gives you a handful of new missions involving a mysterious group of scientists looking for an ancient and familiar looking (for those that completed the Consort's trinket quest from ME1) artefact, and being hunted by the Geth.  You get a bunch of new experience to help hit that level thirty in one play through Achiev...

    A Decent Idea 1

The Cerberus Network is an interesting idea. What is essentially a pipeline for free content (assuming you purchased an original copy of Mass Effect 2), turns out to have some nice perks.       From the outset, C.Net contained "Zaeed - The Price of Revenge" and a mission to visit the crash site of the original Normandy. While the latter isn't terribly interesting (essentially a short scavenge mission with no enemies),  "The Price of Revenge"  gives players access to a new team mate Zaee...

Not as good as hoped 1

The Arrival is the last piece of Downloadable content for Bioware’s superb sci-fi epic Mass Effect 2. This DLC is second of the two that supposedly bridge the gap between ME2 and ME3, with the first being Lair of the Shadow Broker. Because this is essentially the last taste of Mass Effect most people will get until the final game is released, The Arrival has built up a fairly large amount of hype amongst dedicated fans. Does it live up to our high expectations? Eh, kinda.        Becaus...

Stolen Memory is not devoid of quality, just devoid of quantity 0

Mass Effect 2 was one of the greatest games of 2010, with a tale worth playing through, excellent dialogue trees and very able gameplay. When the game first came out, players who had bought the game new received a free downloadable character named Zaeed, who brought with him a loyalty mission and an extra room in the Normandy that was rather bland. With “Kasumi's Stolen Memory”, Bioware has essentially reused that character's formula, with the important difference being that you ...

Great Mission if your Itching for more Mass Effect! 3

Some people have rediculously high expectations for DLC, they think it should compliment the main game when it's really ment as an extra optional mission for fans who just can't get enough of.  Having said that i think this is a nice addition to an already fantastic game.  The mission itself isn't very long but the main focus of the pack is the chacter Kasumi, who you can recruit and take on other missions through out the main game.    If you downloaded the free Zaeed pack then it is pretty much...

Pretty simple mission, with a bit of nostalgic emotion. 2

The Normandy Crash site is identified, you scan the planet and beam down. You view a cutscene showing the Normandy debris among chunks of ice and snow.  The majority of the mission is collecting the 20 dog tags, these are scattered around the small-ish landscape, and are fairly easy to find if you keep an eye out for the hud outline or glow.  There are some emotional parts, you see main parts of Normandy completely destroyed, they show a flashback image of what it used to look like, or the chara...

Mass Effect 2: The Very Model of an Action-RPG 0

As far as sequels go, Mass Effect 2 couldn’t have had more hype surrounding it, and this was a great thing. Previously, Bioware had trouble selling what amounted to an amazingly deep RPG experience in a generation that was quickly attempting to abandon such games, replacing them with relatively few new ideas. Now, I was a huge fan of the first game, it looked pretty, the planetary exploration was, for the most part, fun, the combat was a little shitty, but that could be forgiven by means of the ...

As Good as DLC Gets 4

Lair of the Shadow Broker is the most recent DLC from Bioware focusing on the continuing adventures of Commander Shepard in his fight against The Collectors. It's also the first time a DLC has content that takes place after you've beaten the main game. Ultimately for the price point ($10, or 800 Microsoft/Bioware Points), this DLC delivers everything it should within the timeframe it should be aiming for. The DLC has, as usual, Cerberus send a message to your terminal about a break in the case t...

Arrival is a shallow and dissapointing send-off of Mass Effect 2. 0

Mass Effect 2 was no doubt a landmark game that brilliantly continued shepard's trek around the galaxy in search of spectres, intimacy with crew members and faithful opportunities to the deliver the pain with biotic powers and moment-to-moment moral decisions. The latest downloadable add-on doubt "Arrival"  however, has very little of that. ME2 'Overlord' Geek gamer girl Review 0

Here is my review and some spoilers (OK lots of SPOLIERS DON'T READ ANY FURTHER IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW) for the new DLC for Mass Effect 2 'Overlord'. Well, Bioware gave us what they promised. The biggest DLC for the game yet. I finished in just under 2 hours. It is another chapter in the life that is Commander Shepard fighting for what is right. (if your a paragon that is) The premise is that a Cerberus scientist is working with Geth tech and has used his brother (who is autistic by the way) ...

Comparing Arrival to Mass Effect 2's previous addon, Lair of the Shadow Broker isn't much of a fair comparison. LOTSB taking the cake with his equal mix of story and combat, fantastic locations and a vehicle segment which broke up combat. Arrival discards this with more of a combat focus and primarily taking place in a single locations, albeit nice looking, came off a bit hollow, with fights becoming tiresome without much of a breakup in between them.   When I think about the story Arriv...

Bioware offers its best DLC yet. 1

Lair of the Shadow Broker is the latest DLC for Mass Effect 2, and the first to start bridging the story over to the forthcoming Mass Effect 3. It continues the mission with your old teammate Liara, as she hunts the titular Shadow Broker, a mysterious information trader that has been whispered about throughout the series. Liara has a grudge to settle, and you can expect a lot of action as you make your way through the roughly 2 hour experience. While the combat will seem instantly familiar, the...

Arrival - Going out with a bang 1

Lvl 30 Soldier Post suicide mission    Good to see your face, old man! The term "Going out with a bang" has to be taken a bit more literal here rather than the fact that it was a blast to play. Shepard is contacted by Admiral Hackett who tasks him to spring an old friend of his, Dr Amanda Kenson, from a batarian prison. Shepard is alone on this mission since Hackett refuses to risk Kenson's life by sending an entire squad of people.   This is where Arrival has a c...

Mass Effect 2 is one of those rare games that isn't just a game that you pick up, play and forget in a month. It's an experience. It's structured in a fantastic way with the fantastic story, awesome visuals and near-perfect gameplay. To top it off it gave us free DLC if you purchased brand new purchases using a service called the 'Cerberus Network' . Well that moment of free downloadable content is over with the release of 'Stolen Memories'. But is it worth the 560 Microsoft Points?  'Stolen Mem...

A sequel that fixes what was broke and what wasn't broke 0

Mass Effect 2 was a game that I very much anticipated playing. The first Mass Effect had such great potential, but it was stymied by horrible combat. Its problems were fixable though, and that is why I was eager to see how this game turned out. To my pleasant surprise, Bioware did a good job of addressing the big problems from Mass Effect. Unfortunately though, they also addressed some nonexistent problems, losing a lot of what was good in the process. Given the current trends in gaming, it prob...

    Why Bother? 2

Really Bioware... why bother shipping this?  1. No save games within the missions.  My difficulty was on the hardest setting which i finished the normal game with.  I'm finding this add on more frustrating than any part of the original game.  2. Whats with the "i don't care what your aiming at... we'll shoot somewhere else" aiming mode? 3. Why pick your party members when its clear that they do not matter in these missions.    Did anyone bother to play this DLC before it shipped?  Its worse than...

I understand what the developers were trying to do here but the constant pausing to flash back to what things used to look like was more annoying than emotionally moving. The Mass Effect series, in particular Mass Effect 2 (ME2) is definitely one of those games.Continuing the story of Commander Shepherd, ME2 follows a very similar path to the first game. Shepherd is presented with an insanely dangerous mission, then spends the main body of the game recruiting a crew skilful and brave enough to carry ou...

How DLC should be done 0

Simply put, I was extremely impressed with Lair of the Shadow Broker (LSB). Unlike the previous DLC that were released which felt like tacked on missions or pointless items (with the exception of the recently released weapons pack), LSB really hit home, focusing on the story of Liara's connection with the Shadow Broker (a story branch from the first Mass Effect). Along with a relevant plot and relevant character, it also featured great production values, sufficient length and a variety of cool f...

This review concerns the Xbox 360 version of the game. The first Mass Effect game was a revelation to me, I had not played an RPG of that depth since the Kotor days on the original Xbox. I loved the sense of adventure the storyline had, it reminded me of the science fiction books I grew up reading. I loved the openness, size and freedom of the game world; that you could land and drive around on almost every planet. I loved the tactical gameplay, where you carefully picked which ammo and armor to ...

After the Lair of the Shadow Broker came out, it seemed Bioware's streak of delivering mediocre to decent DLC's for their games was over. After delivering rather bland releases for the first Mass Effect and okay-but-not-exceptional ones for Dragon Age, in came Shadow Broker and blew away everybody by being really awesome...and then it stopped. Man there sure is a lot of talk about the Mass Effect franchise lately. I have heard it said that Mass Effect 2 will be looked back upon as one of gaming’s best of all time. Since PlayStation 3 owners are not able to experience the story from the beginning, the first apparently being owned by Microsoft, I figured I would pick up the sequel since the price dropped. A perfect epilogue after finishing Mass Effect 2. 0

As much as I enjoyed Overlord for its creepy atmosphere and smart storytelling, Lair of the Shadow Broker makes a bigger impact overall to the Mass Effect universe. Whereas most of ME2's missions have a decidedly TV feel -- discover a problem, resolve the problem, get out of town -- something about Shadow Broker feels more epic, like a classic film instead of a TV episode. This is probably largely due to the history you may (or may not) have with the game's two main characters, Liara and the Sha...

First of all, there are glaring bugs in the DLC. Audio cuts out part of Shepard's dialogue line. The camera angle goes to a wall when characters are supposed to talking. Then Liara walks through a door like she's a ghost, they didn't even bother to have the door open and close for her to walk through. Bioware really sets a new standard for story-based DLC with Overlord. This is a brief campaign, maybe a few hours on your first playthrough -- but the experience certainly feels much larger.
