I apologize beforehand if this is in the wrong forum category. I am new to forums, and do not mean to offend anyone. Now that I got that out of the way, I could really use your help. I am a big fan of Bioware and their games, and I'm debating whether or not the get Mass Effect 3 or SWTOR. I have never tried mmo's, so saying that SWTOR is too similar to WoW will have no affect on me. I played the Mass Effect 3 demo and really enjoyed it, but I'm a bit worried about the story. I'm sure Bioware will pull through however (they always do). I am a big fan of singleplayer experiences, but from what I hear, SWTOR is a singleplayer game with mmo elements tacked on. Both games look very good, and I will likely end up playing both, but for now, I cannot decide. Please state your opinions on the two games. Thank you.

It's tough, really. I played quite a bit of SWTOR and then quit...it has a lot going for it, and there are eight "single player" fully voiced story lines to play through. I got tired of the game after playing one character through to level 50, though. I know a lot of people are still playing it, but it's just not for me.

As far as Mass Effect 3 goes...it's sort of a no-brainer, and a definite purchase because the multiplayer is pretty awesome.

My advice is to buy Mass Effect 3 now, then try SWTOR later when the price comes down a little or a free trial becomes available.

Thank you for your honest opinion. I had a feeling that SWTOR might get a bit repetitive after a while, although the star wars universe helps. Edit: Also, I've played first two ME games and I want to see how it ends.

If you've been playing the Mass Effect series up until now, don't you feel like you have a sort of moral obligation to finish the trilogy? That's how I feel...I haven't been indoctrinated, I swear.

Yes, I'm just debating whether or not to hold off. I'm currently replaying ME2 however, to make sure I'm happy with my decesions. I guess I kinda made up my decesion already, just wan't conscious of it.

I would say Mass Effect 3. Star Wars doesn't have Krogans.

Get Mass Effect 3, especially if you've already played the first two.

However, despite having stopped playing it alone (I only play it occasionally with my brothers now), SWTOR gave me a good 100 hours or so of entertainment within a little over a month. So if you're ever bored in the summer, give it a buy.

Considering that Mass Effect is pretty much the superior universe at this point, get Mass Effect 3.

You could try out SWTOR when a free trial becomes available, don't waste your money on something you might not enjoy like I did...

100% get Mass Effect 3. It seems like it's going to combine the best elements of one and two and add a fun and meaningful multiplayer experience on top.

In terms of SWToR, I'd say it depends on whether or not you can find a friend or three to make a go if it with you. If you end up playing it as a single-player experience, you may have some fun but will likely ultimately be turned off by the pacing. If you can find someone to share the journey with you, it's definitely worth playing up to level 50 at least once.

Ultimately, one is an MMOG and another is not.

If you want a cinematic experience with third person action RPG elements (and I'm assuming here, from Demo experience), go for Mass Effect 3.

If you want an MMORPG with some novel story presentation, go for SWTOR.

Not buying Mass Effect 3 is basically admitting you hate video games.

If you've played the previous two Mass Effect games, why not finish off Shepard's story? If you've never played the previous two, then what are you waiting for!

    @mattusha:

Mass Effect 3 - a really bitchin' and exciting 20-30 hour experience

    SWTOR - a pretty good--if not a little drawn out--200+ hour experience

Take your pick. They're two very different types of games that I think only appeal to two very different audiences.

This is wishful thinking, to say the least. Free-to-play business model changes seem to only happen when the game reaches a certain abysmal subscriber number. At the moment, SWTOR is doing just fine and had really positive critical reception. It's the same reason why Rift isn't F2P: solid numbers and solid reviews. Moreover, an abysmal EA-published failure (Warhammer Online) has been sitting P2P for 3.5 years now, with no sign of change. I think EA is hesitant as a publisher in switched to a brand new business model for products that clearly weren't envisioned with said model in mind.

My internet connection makes playing any MMO (including Warcraft) very difficult, so I'm going with Mass Effect 3.

I know that this is sacrilegious to say because of my tag but go Mass Effect 3. SWTOR is good but as Roly said above, you'd be admitting to hating video games by not buying it. Just saying.

ME3 will be the better experience for you I think. SWTOR is fine but comes with a lot of MMO baggage that dilutes the "Bioware" experience.

Theres no reason not to try both really, I mean everyone and their dog will be playing mass effect 3 so thats not really much of a choice. As far as swtor however, maybe ask for a free trial, see how you get on?

Yep, ME3 first, then go for SWTOR with a trial or something.

Both are great in their own way.
