But those are just casual dressing to wear only on the ship, correct? Of course she wouldn't be wearing that in combat; neither would the male Shepard. What's wrong with it? The fact that she's a woman wearing a dress? Women don't wear dresses?I can't really think of any other characters in Mass Effect that I've seen wearing a cocktail dress and heels.
Mass Effect 3
Game » consists of 19 releases. Released Mar 06, 2012
When Earth begins to fall in an ancient cycle of destruction, Commander Shepard must unite the forces of the galaxy to stop the Reapers in the final chapter of the original Mass Effect trilogy.
Bioware showing that they are a paragon of equality
I want that jacket IRL so hard. I expect this to be on the Bioware Store soon. That shit is so cash.
And we do need an ignore feature. I don't want to see the Mass Effect or Bioware forums ever if this type of drama is going to keep up.
"Breaking News! Mass Effect 3 just went gold! What? Why gold? Is Bioware saying Mass Effect 3 is better than any other game? Why not bronze or silver? Fucking Bioware".
Yeah, dude. You can't have strong fictional women wearing sexy clothes because that makes you a misogynist. They have to wear the same clothes as the men because that's equal and everything has to be equal. Also you can't have stereotypical negroes or homosexuals in fiction because if you do you are clearly a racist homophobe. Never mind the fact that strong women might want to wear feminine, revealing clothes or that there are black dudes and gay people who fit the stereotypes exactly (also, never mind that this doesn't even matter anyway because it's fiction for fuck's sake, which means you can do whatever the fuck you like -- you do not have to portray women, negroes or homosexuals realistically, and you certainly don't have to be prejudiced towards them or hate them to enjoy the idea of them wearing certain things or acting certain ways). Those people are not real human beings and do not deserve to be portrayed because that shit is offensive and anyone who doesn't mind is clearly an intolerant prejudiced hate-filled under-educated scumbag who thinks everyone that isn't a caucasian male is a waste of space that pollutes society and will burn forever come Judgment Day.
And they call this "equality". Take your retarded "equality" and stick it up your ass where it belongs.
Do you have something personal against ME 3?
I mean, there are so many worse examples of sexism in games, but this is what gets you riled up?
Not a big deal, but a cocktail dress is a bit silly. Something less formal and still feminine could be better... But is not like that fact can be changed at this point. It matters very little also.
HOWEVER...Expecting women to be more like men in order to be cool is kinda on the other side of sexist ( yup, there's two opposite, extreme sides). It's a complicated issue and a thin line indeed.
Whilst I think that it's hilariously ludicrous that a) Manshep would have a leather jacket with his Special Forces rank on it like some sort of casual menswear brand or b) Femshep would turn up to her trial in front of the Alliance Admiralty in a cocktail dress, I'm not really getting the 'omg sexism' angle that much. They're both silly alternate outfits - equality through sillyness! It's not like Anderson promptly slapped her in the face and told her to stay in the kitchen or something, it's just a dress.
I do echo the sentiment that I kinda want that jacket to be real and purchasable though.
wait. i just checked the mass effect 3 forums and found this
I think your complaint is null and void now, and honestly i think this hoodie is way more dope than his jacket
the bonus should have been someone suggesting that shepard wear a dress & her punching them out of a fucking window.
I doubt being sexist was there intention but that does suck. The jacket is so much cooler, why cant she have it as well. @BraveToaster said:

You were born a male. No matter how many operations you get, you'll still be a male.
Wow dude, uncalled for. That is really mean and disrespectful.

you're right of course, but it would still be a better compromise than that silly dress.
@jillsandwich: also thank you I was waiting for someone to get that D:

Not ALL MEN like to be MACHO!
SEXIST!
@Animasta: i haven't been paying attention to this stuff too much so you may be right that the hoodie is for something else

The hoody is separate. I think you get it with the Collector's Edition.

my complaint still stands!
hoody is still sweet though
The non-combat outfits Shepard has had available throughout the series have never been overtly sexual, just inoffensive future-casual stuff. This would be kind of fun if there was a way to swap outfits and get maleshep into that cocktail dress and heels for his off-hours schmoozing, but the reality is that BioWare knows their target audience and aren't ashamed to pander to them. Videogames!
My FemShep wore the dress included in one of the DLCs onboard the Normandy for most of Mass Effect 2. What the fuck is wrong with women in dresses? It's not like she's wearing it while fighting.
women are sexist then because in the real civilized world they give many more shits about there appernces than men do, they spend billions on makeup hair products and dresses, they put them selves through hell to look as good as possible. men don't wear make up, they jsut slap on jeans and a shirt and maybe a jacket. it takes real effort and work to wear dresses and heels. therefore women are sexist to themselves because they willingly put themselves through hell not just to impress males, but to impress other females and make them envious.
own the world, hack the world, fuck the world.
I'm thinking about joining CL60's petition for an 'Ignore' button.
I sometimes seriously wonder if certain people in these forums have ever ventured outside their homes and into the real world. Because this, this is not something to get upset about.

Funny thing is, I find women in hoodies or other casual type clothes way more attractive than just about any dress. I guess I'm just weird.

I am not upset, I am just disappointed.

I think the point is that walking around on the Normandy does not seem the place for such formal wear. Thus why male Shepard gets a casual and cool jacket. I see it as a inconsistent tone issue
I'm happy I dont get so worked up over such petty things. Jesus Christ its a clothing option in a video game. The leather jacket is pretty dumb too really.
"Hey, I'm Animasta, I like my ANIME GURLS to look real trashy and titty-licious, because Japan and that makes it okay for chicks to be exposed, while guys get to wear sweet parachute pants. Anyway, Canadian women should only be allowed to wear denim vests and bootcut jeans, like the ones modeled by Bret Favre. It's equality, you guys."

I'm pretty sure my point still stands, though. She's exactly like male Shepard in every way. She gets the same dialogue, she gets to have sex with pretty much anybody male Shepard can. She's just as much of a badass. But Bioware puts out one measly fucking dress as DLC and it disappoints you? Really? You have nothing reasonable to complain about? I dunno. It just seems sad to me.
I sense a bit or sarcasm in the thread but still..

Femshep wants to feel pretty?
This. Honestly feminists need to take a fucking break from all the hating. Whatever you say about girls putting on makeup to impress men bullshit, well a lot of guys and girls ENJOY feeling pretty. I like it too. If that's what makes people happy, then let them be. And all of a sudden people jump in and say, "OH SHES OUT OF CHARACTER YOU SEXIST". WHAT.THE.FUCK. When did Shepard have a character? I thought he/she was always only a narrative device to play out the players' choices. Now before people point out I put "he" before "she" in the last sentence, I'm out.
isn't that just the kasumi dlc dress with some extra gubbins added on. way to just phone in your sexism bioware. next thing you'll tell me they skimped out and just recycled all the asari sex animations.

Your complaint is based on random images ripped from the demo by random gamers.

I know you were probably trying to be sarcastic or something but you're right! Fact is men are always painted as being tough, women elegant. And as people have said there's a reason for that stereotype and like most stereotypes there's some truth in it. I know it might piss you off but the only way to get rid of this way of thinking is for women to change their ways and become, universally, more like men. So.. good luck with that?
EDIT: Just to clarify I think the dress does like dumb, as did the dress in ME2. But that still doest change the fact that the jacket is just the opposite stereotype imposed on men.
