So I just beat the Citadel DLC and holy shit, was that the best! I mean it was injokey of the highest order, but its exactly what I needed. I needed to feel good about Mass Effect and by god did this DLC do it. So if your like me and love this to death, tell me your favorite moments. I have far too many to list off in a single post so I'll just start with this.

i've still to beat the last boss, gonna hit it this morning right after coffee, but god damn what a great ending to the mass effect trilogy, i'm happy to leave my save game right there and forget that other ending ever happened.

loved the "i should go" discussion. lmao.

@hh: The final scene of the DLC really does feel like a perfect ending. I don't think this DLC would actually work as the real ending because it would be too fucking cheesy. I also think it wouldn't have worked if it came on the disc because the pacing would have been thrown off to much. But as a DLC, and the final one at that, its perfect. Its the last thing I get to experience for Mass Effect and I couldn't be happier.

And yeah Shepard's realization of how he/she say's "I should go" was awesome.

I haven't done all of the squadmate stuff yet but loved the story. Even the dumb Clone-Shepard reveal.

One of the best parts was i got to go on a classy date with my girl, Ashley. :)

The entirety of this DLC was so amazingly cheesy that I loved it. Took me maybe until the second part of the DLC before I realized that this is just a huge parody of the franchise itself and for a moment I just couldn't believe it. After three pretty self-serious games (controversial ending notwithstanding), this was so out of left field so didn't know how to handle the fourth wall-breaking dialog bits. I went into this DLC completely blind, didn't even watch that trailer that released like a few days ago. It felt like this is what would happen if Mass Effect just became some sitcom manned with writers who were so unfamiliar with the characters and universe and tried to appeal to the common lowest denominator (Two and Half Men and The Big Bang Theory people). Then again, I don't watch those shows but man this shit is so cheesy and it was fucking awesome.

Besides that, it was great listening to parts of Anderson's life through the scattered audio logs in his apartment (not sure if they poke fun at that). I kinda wish there was some Mass Effect 3: Off The Record version of the universe where everything went right for Captain Anderson and he was the protagonist of the third game instead of Shepard.

Also, I wish the clone had been the opposite gender of you instead. Fuck man. DLC of the year if that had happened.

    @jeanluc:

How did I miss that part? I made sure to see every conversation and experience every little moment the DLC had to offer, yet I did not see that. When does that happen?

Anyway, my favorite moment was Thane's memorial. I did enjoy the humorous tone of the DLC, but Thane's memorial was one of the few moments that took itself completely serious, and I'll admit, it got to me.

I loved this DLC. There was so much great stuff in here - sure it's cheesy as hell, it's even pretty dumb story wise (Although I guessed Clone Shepard was the villain when you contact the 'Mysterious Figure' in the dead Casino owner's panic room, because the vidscreen suddenly displayed my FemShep's shock of Red hair!), but as a way of saying goodbye to those characters, it was perfect, all brilliantly written. Favourite bits:

    • Traynor saves the day, and I remind Liara to subtract the cost of a Cision Pro Mark 4 from my Alliance Funding.
    • 'She messed with my hamster guys. Now it's Personal. Guys? Were you gonna say something, or... no, no, I get it. Hard to even find the words.'
    • The FemShep/Garrus date.
    • Traynor vs. T'suza, Space Chess Showdown!
    • Grunt's Birthday adventure. At least the Noodles were good.
    • The Female Human Infiltrator complaining to her Vorcha pal on the Strip about idiot Vanguards she's encountered during N7 missions in the field, capturing the MP fanbase perfectly.
    • Inviting Liara up to the apartment... and she plays Vigil's theme on the piano.
    • 'Team Prothean here, and I've killed more than any of you combined!'
    • The morning after the night before, when you discover Mordin's datapad. The Perry the Pyjak altercation is hilarious.

i didn't think it was any cheesier than any of the ME writing that's come before, at all, it was just lighthearted and tongue-in-cheek, those are different from cheesy. and maybe they should have done it sooner, the writers have always taken things a little too seriously in this series for me.

In hindsight I like it more, I've come to terms with how over-the-top cheesy it is. At the time I was like "come on buddy" but now I'm cool. I haven't done the arcade post-mission stuff so still stuff to do. I actually think the Mysterious Enemy has some decent narrative hooks, I like how twisted it is... But all the dialogue is so beyond silly that it makes it seem ridiculous.

Kind of makes me wish that writers couldn't respond to memes whatsoever though. Just driving all the fan memes into the ground. Yeah, Garrus says calibrating a lot, KEEP SAYING IT GUYS IT GETS FUNNIER EACH TIME! Actually, yeah, it feels more like these characters were acting like their Internet versions of how we like to pretend they are rather than their actual characterization.

@brodehouse: Yeah I agree and that's why I don't agree with people who keep saying this should have been in the game from the start. Its tone and level of seriousness would not fit with Mass Effect 3. I think it works because its a DLC.

I'm curious, who did people bring to the party scene? I almost brought Liara because she's my LI but the temptation to see Wrex in a suit was too great.

I just started playing this again with my "I killed every squadmate possible" Shepard, and boy does it feel different. Its hard to feel a sense of teamwork and camaraderie when everyone is dead. Also I miss Wrex, he really helps make this DLC special.

Thank you for bringing that up. I imagine BioWare's idea of fanservice in ME4 will be a calibrating mini-game narrated by Brandon Keener with the reward being a video of Al-Jilani getting punched repeatedly.

    Wow.

As someone with no intention of buying this DLC, I read a brief synopsis of the shooty parts and... yeah. Maybe it plays better within the overall tone of the DLC, but in straight-up expository text form, my reaction is "uhhhhhhh".

Hey guys. After Mass Effect 3's ending and all that, I had no intention of buying story dlc. Primarily cause I no longer want to support Bioware, but also because for me it's hard to go back into a story where I already know how it ends and the way the universe will go. But this Citadel dlc looks cool. It's drawn my attention. Given the way I feel, so you guys recommend it? Worth putting Mass Effect 3 back in after I've said goodbye?

@luciddreams117: Look I felt the same way and I havent really played ME3 since it came out (besides the dlcs) but you know what IMHO: this is the best dlc they have released PERIOD. I acually wanna play the game again to see different outcomes and its made me wanna go back and play ME2 to change some of my LI around. Forget every other dlc that has came out but at least get this one.

Oh great. I shot Wrex in the face. Cause of him being angry about the whole genophage not really being cured thing. Hmm but Thane also died in my ME3? So how does that work?.. Does it take part in the 'past' or do I need to play this in a new game?

Truth be told, I would get at least the free ending dlc. I played this with all the other dlc for the first time and my experience was one where I am only slightly dissapointed by the ending.

    Miranda :(

    She died in my game.

This DLC was without doubt one of the best pieces of video game content I've consumed in a good long while. It brought everything I loved about this series and it's characters to light again, and reminded me just how much I'm going to miss them.

The series sure had its ups and downs, but even with those dark moments, it still managed to outshine almost every other game that was released this generation. I'm not much of a holy man, but God bless the Mass Effect trilogy for existing.

I loved the DLC and thought that it was a really nice way to say goodbye to the trilogy. The ending with everyone standing looking at the Normandy was a bit sad, especially knowing that my Shepard never survived to meet up with Miranda later.

Some great funny moments as well, my favourites being Shepard's reaction to the pizza guy and Grunt telling the story of how he was arrested. lol

DLC was incredible. Perfect way to say goodbye. It was totally fan service, but it was some of the best that I've seen. And it was incredibly dense as well. Just tons of content. So long, Shepard trilogy. It's been amazing.

Both Miranda and Wrex was dead in my game (what? I couldn't cure the genophage, the salarians wouldn't have helped earth out, and too bad if I had to kill Wrex and Mordin for it to happen!), so that's a bit of a bummer. But man, what a great DLC. A fitting goodbye to ME3.

You know what: screw all of you guys, Mass Effect is the best video-game franchise of all time (Mario excepted) and Mass Effect 3 is the best game in the trilogy. I will fist-fight anyone who says different. Actually I wont, because I would lose, but you get my point!

We have to remember there has been this constant tonal problem with most of (all) Mass Effect where you are told "Shepard, the billions in the galaxy are in danger unless we deal with this threat now" but then you round a corner and go dancing or run a FedEx errand for some guy you never met before. In the end I don't think the "tone" they strove for worked out where instead the tone in this one is much better.

Personally I think this helps remind players that the Citadel is actually an odd place instead of a safe place. The fact some hilarious stuff happens in it is simply a bonus.

The final departing scene was the best ending of the entire series, and did a fuck ton better job of dealing with the emotions of concluding this series than anything put into the extended ending. There was only a few moments out of out and out schlock in Citadel, but those were also some of the best moments of the DLC (and maybe the entire series). This was the perfect time for Mass Effect to poke fun at itself, and Bioware did it in a way that was honest and funny ("I should *go*? I *should* go? *I* should go?.."). That there were actually poignant moments in the DLC only reinforce the funny parts. This was clearly made by people who cared a lot about this series and wanted to end it on a high note, and they succeeded.

This DLC is really weird. I'm kind of liking it. But it's weird. It sounds like they're trying to get the snappy dialogue of Saints Row the Third and so far are getting kind of close. But not always. It does have the most personality of anything Mass Effect related in a long, long time which is nice.
