I have Mass Effect 1 on Steam, Mass Effect 2 on disc and am torn on where to get Mass effect 3.

Origin offers all the pre-order DLC if you buy it directly from EA. This would be a digital download, which is fine even though it isn't part of Steam. My main concern is what I have heard about digital purchases on Origin. Do they expire? Are they not permanently tied to my account? I don't want to buy it if in 2 years they don't recognise that I bought it any more. I can get it for the same price on disc, but without the extra DLC. If I buy the disc however, my game will be safe and will only be invalid if EA shut down their authorization servers.

So, any insight in to which I should buy?

    UPDATE

My question has been answered, and after a bit of research I have found the evidence, so I am posting an article from EA here just so everyone knows. It is in the terms and conditions of Origin, but this clause is only for inapropriate accounts.

Mass Effect 3 is requires origin no matter which way you go if I'm not mistaken. Even if you buy the disc you still have to use Origins to use it.

    In a store.

Buyign stuff through Orgin is immoral and supports bad stuff... like the killing of puppies.

But really it is a conscience decision of mine to never buy anything through origin ever. I am just stomaching it till i get enough of bf3 and mass effect and then it is getting thrown of the old hard disc.

I have no qualms using Origin, my question is regarding my ownership of the game. If I have a disc, I can install it from that whenever. I heard, however, that Origin purchases can expire if unused for 2 years or something of that nature.

I own Mass Effect 1 on PC (standalone disc from before it was on Steam)

I double dipped and also got it on Games on Demand on Xbox 360

I bought Mass Effect 2 Digital Deluxe Edition on Steam

I double dipped and also bought the standard edition on Xbox 360

I have the Collector's Edition of Mass Effect 3 pre-ordered for Xbox 360

I will not be buying ANY edition on PC until it is divorced from Origin, I do not want another digital catalog of games. Standalone, Steam, or bust.

I'm getting it through Amazon's Digital store. They're offering a $10 off coupon with a purchase through them. You do need Origin to play the game, but you'll always own the game through Amazon.

On a side note, there sure is a lot of hate going on for Origin. It's really not to bad of a service honestly. I don't understand all the hate they continue to receive.

I was going to buy ME3 retail through Amazon, even though it still requires Origin. Just so EA wouldn't get all of the money pie.

But then they gave away BF3 with an Origin ME3 pre-order. While I own BF3, I have friends who don't - I'll let them duke it out with a sharp pointy stick to see who gets the code, but the BF3/ME3 deal sealed my fate.

I'm paying $43 for the regular edition through Amazon's digital download service. They had a 10% off deal a while ago, and I had a $10 credit from a previous purchase. Plus Amazon customer service is awesome and they gave me the $10 pre-order credit too. Now I can still buy the Prothean DLC and pay way less pretty much everyone.

@Swarfigo: Yeah, I pre-ordered the digital version of BF3 for pretty much $20 after $20 credit + the discount. Amazon is great.

    This.

This is what I was looking for. Why did I hear that EA wont let you download them after 2 years? Maybe just trolls.

I believe this was true at one point, but EA changed it. I've had a copy of The Sims 3 on my account for a long time now and it's still there.
