I just watched the Quick Look for this (wanted to wait until I finished the game myself) and was amazed at Jeff's playtime, both for this and Mass Effect 2. I poured over everything in both games and didn't anywhere close to either of his times. Just kinda curious if I'm the odd man out.

I finished ME3 at about 27 hours, doing all side missions. My final ME2 save was like 35 hours with all the DLC completed. Jeff's 50+ hour playtime on ME2 seems absolutely CRAZY.

My ME2 playthrough was 30 hours(did everything). Jeff has been idling in ME2. Hehe.

~25 Hours. Did everything I could, but didn't explore the whole universe.

This should give you a pretty good idea of average playtimes.

Also, my times given by Steam for the first two games:

    • Mass Effect 1: 53h
    • Mass Effect 2: 54h

both numbers are perhaps an hour or so higher than they should be, given that I played around with both games a bit after I had completed them. They should be roughly correct though.

45h. Not sure where all the time went. My guess is lots of unfocused dicking around combined with a love for using the power wheel pause menu.

53h ME1 playthrough? This is not more than one playthrough? I did EVERYTHING, talked to everybody, read most of the codex in ME1 and finished it for about 25-30 hours. What are you people doing!

@BeachThunder: 53 hours in ME1 is crazy. I finished it in 13 doing everything except one thing that became unavailable.

ME2 with dlc something like 40 hours.

ME3 not finished yet but im at 27 hours so far.

About 35 hours, playing from a perfect ME2 save where everyone survived.  I didn't touch loads of the planet scanning, but I tried to talk to everyone after each mission, and I explored each area quite a bit.

My first ME1 run just over 8 hours. I skipped almost all of the side quests and lacked the charm points needed to save Wrex. Luckily, I corrected my mistakes when the PC version came out.

On my definitive Shepard I spent about 17 hours in ME1, 36 in ME2, and 28 in ME3.

This gives me hope that I might actually finish these games one day. I've always assumed they were like 100 hour + epics. I own all three but have barely played the first.

The first always felt the longest to me. It takes a while to get going. Don't get me wrong, I love the conversation stuff in these games, but it sometimes (especially in the first game) gets a bit overbearing.

Yeah, from what little I've played of the first game, the conversation stuff wasn't particularly good. Especially after playing Heavy Rain, which took a more organic approach.

Finished ME3 in about 35 hours. To answer the question of what took so long is I left it running for about an hour, and I talked to everyone after every mission. Scanning was time consuming. As soon as a cluster opened I went to it.

@HistoryInRust: I'd say you are about a third through the game.

ME1: Think it was in the 50:ies to get a complete run with all resource nodes harvested and planets visited.

    ME2: Around 40h

    ME3: 35h + some change.

I couldn't see myself spending anymore than fifteen at most in the first game. I never cared for its sidequests and didn't pay much attention to them.

The second game I can easily do a more complete run in, though again I don't see how you people manage to squeeze 40+ hours out of it. I got all the loyalty missions done and beat ME2 in ~22 hours, and I can't see myself doing more than ~6 hours worth of sidequests.

I haven't beaten the third yet but I'm 20 hours in and doing a more thorough run than I did of the first two games. Still, I'm getting close to the end and I don't think I'll spend more than ~25 hours on this particular run.

My Mass Effect 2 completion time was over seventy-six hours, and I'm proud of it.

Haven't finished Mass Effect 3 yet, only because the internet has made it impossible for me to enjoy the goddamn game. While I've managed to avoid only outright spoilers, the backlash has proven itself seriously overwhelming.
