It was totally stuck, I hate the 360 version of this (slows down, a lot) so when this happened causing me to lose over 30 minutes of gametime I was not pleased! :( (my last save was almost an hour back I think)

@Ygg:  The shitty Mako, the slow-downs, the lack of frequent auto-saves, welcome to Mass Effect.

Funny side story, I took the mission to free Liara and it was the first time I got to use the Mako. I drove about ten feet and I died. Undaunted I tried again and took a right and died. After a while I found out that I was driving on some "lava" and it was coded to be insta-death.
Later on in the game I'm driving on the lifted freeway at the Colony and, like a snowboarder, I ramp off the side and fly forever. My last save turned out to be at the start of the mission.

That being said, I still consider it to be one of the best games ever made. Make of that what you will.

The Mako isn't nearly as big of a deal as people make it out to be. I have 4 characters in Mass Effect, 2 of them have over 70 hours put into them and the others are around 50-40. That's a lot of Mass Effect. And from all that playing, I have never gotten pissed at the Mako or it's mechanics. I actually loved going in it and with one of my characters I even scoured every single planet for secret items which don't come up on the map. All you need to do is learn how to time your jets in sync with the bumps and know the limits of it's climbing abilities and you'll have a last with it like I did. I'm hoping they bring back a similar type of vehicle in ME3, although I know they won't because so many noobish gamers complain about it -_-

The entire planetary exploration was better in Mass Effect. Having to fuel your ship, which was also much slower than the cursor ME gave you, was pointless and I definitely hope they revert back to the classic galaxy map in ME3.

This. The Mako is just misunderstood. The mako has a 3x zoom, and a ton of people have no clue it's even there. The mako was fine, the bare and empty planets were not.

I managed to get it stuck twice, BUT if you play the DLC mission "Bring Down the Sky" there's some parked makoish vehicles and if you aim it right you can launch yourself CRAZY high off em.

If I still had the game installed I'd totally make an video of that with some sweet music and a fish eye lens.

As an aside I did kinda like the Mako missions but they weren't fleshed out enough, plus the combat was super boring. I really liked the whole navigating terrain concept, but I wished that the Mako had like a high top speed or something to reward you for finding nice paths, most of the time you could just go straight up and down a mountain.

The Mako is not that difficult to control. Work with it a little and you'll be able to handle it like a pro. Personally when I got into a difficult position with it I hammered 'A' on my 360 controller to activate the jump-jets and slowly glide my way to safety. It works when the Mako is at odd angles as well, from my experience. The weapons on it alone make it worth using sometimes, because it's much more well armed and armoured than a human, as you would expect.

Very true. When the shield was depleted I just bailed from it and did some ground-based work for a few seconds. Surprisingly if it's low on shields, colliding with the bastard Geth Armature / Juggernaut works well enough. Shoot it when it's down and things become easy enough. Assuming there are no other enemies around you... :P

I LOVE the Mako so damn much! It was a bit annoying the first time using it, but after a couple of hours, I was in love with it. It can traverse ANYTHING if you try hard enough. I was genuinely disappointed when I found out the Mako wasn't going to be included in ME2.

Generally speaking though, I totally understand why people don't like the Mako. It can be a pain in the ass from time to time. But trust me, if you take the time to learn how to properly use the Mako, it's such a sweet ride...

it didnt take them a year to port it over. Microsoft prevented them from releasing it to PC. When a developer creates an xbox360 "xenon" game especially with a multiplatform engine like UE and XDA, a PC version of your game can literally be shat out same day.

You tried to drive over the goddamned energy shields. Didn't you?

It says very specifically in the Mako Owner's Manual, on page 212, not to drive over energy shields, gravity wells, or teenagers from the state of Virginia, as doing so will cause the vehicle to flip upwards at an uncontrollable vector. In fact, the only way to regain physical dominion over the Mako post-liftoff is to trap it . . . which is precisely what you've done, from the looks of it.

As this guy says, I totally tried to drive over the energy shields and it made the Mako do some crazy corkscrew or something, though I never got stuck. And after the first time it didn't work, I just never tried to drive through them again.

As for the controls, I remember there being something weird about the way they were mapped at first, but I apparently got used to it because I can't remember ever having trouble after the first one or two drives.

    Ah, the Mako.
It wasn't that bad really except for the boredom of going to plastered skinned planet after plastered skinned planet.
Then their answer for that in 2 was to replace boring running around on uninteresting planets with scanning uninteresting planets for substance, that in the previous game all you had to do was press A and go on about your business.
I think there's some unwritten code with game developers that state that you have to make some part of your game shitty in order for people to appreciate the brilliance of the other part.
I would almost believe in that except for games like Bioshock, which were awesome through the entire experience. I Hope Bioshock Infinite is as awesome as the first, but I digress.
Anywho, sucks for the games that are shitty to begin with eh?

This is my 4th playthrough I think now, twice on PC and once on 360 before, I forgot about the slowdown the 360 version had. I thought I was just being too bitchy about it but nope, it's as bad as I remember!

Haha I sure did! I knew it was a Mako section so I just thought I'd get it over as fast as I could and went past everything and tried boosting over the shields, then that happened!

The only problem with the Mako is that it's nearly impossible to back up with. I wouldn't have minded it staying in Mass Effect 2 if they fixed things up, but the Hammerhead is pretty cool too.

Oh, the 360 version? Damn. Any quicksave button for you guys? If not, then that is truly depressing news.

I played this game on the 360 I experienced no slowdown or problems with the mechanics of the mako.

Only thing I didn't like is how when it got all effed up you had to use omni gel which I never had any of until near the end of the game when I was melting down my hundred old upgrades.  So usually when it got damaged beyond repair, I'd hoof it.

" The Mako is not that difficult to control. "
Pretty much this. Learn to work the Mako, learn to line up shots, use boost to dodge any incoming fire. But I disagree with using it for combat - if you must weaken the Armatures with the Mako and finish them off on foot. Not worth the penalized EXP to kill inside the Mako.
