Mako combat wasn't really that good, but planets were big, it was sort of adventurous going around looking at stuff, plus you can rocket boost! I thought it was sick at the time. Maybe I just glossed over the flaws?

The planet design was awful for a vehicle with as shitty and floaty handling as the Mako. You spent more time doing flips and bouncing around screaming in frustration than you did actually doing the cookie cutter missions or events that you were trying to get to.

I liked the Mako too. I think they should have considered improving it, instead of removing it altogether in ME2.

Wait until you have to try and climb a mountain and it takes you 15 minutes, only to barrel roll all the way back down.

     Edit: I got confuzzled.

As for why all the hate?  Because people have to hate on something.  It wasn't great, but the new mako DLC in ME2 is likely a sign of what they will turn it into in ME3.

    I don't mind the handling, it's not a lamborghini.

The problem with it was not being able to shoot down, and the planet exploration being uninteresting after the second time.

Overall it felt cumbersome, getting rid of it was a much better decision.

Yeah I had no real problem with the Mako. I enjoyed ramming those Geth Colossus bastards. Driving up a 90 degree angle was also kinda enjoyable.

That said, I preferred the mining in Mass Effect 2. I think I'm the only one.

The planets were pretty much all the same and really horrible, even though the Mako was supposed to be able to go 'anywhere' it just couldn't get up some of those damn slopes!
Every planet was either ice mountains, dirt mountains or lava mountains? Or just mountains.

The thing also controlled like an utter piece of crap. Though i admit, the PC Mako was almost bearable, the 360 one is just the worst thing ever!

I liked The Mako too. I mean, I think the planets could have been a hell of a lot less cut and paste. The handling wasn't too difficult. And even if you did do flips and shit it wasn't hard to get yourself back right. I really felt like everyone was going to say there wasn't ENOUGH Mako in the game. I don't know. Maybe it's just how my mind works, but me and that bug got along great.

The controls sucked and the planets were too big. It would be fine if there was actually something to find but the majority of the planets were huge, barren and uninteresting.

On like the 30th planet, after spending 30-45 minutes trying to climb a mountain to get some sort of mineral, it begins to grate on you. Then when you get the thing stuck in such a way that your only option is to reload the save and try again (yes, it is very possible,) hate is the only justifiable answer.

If you've managed to avoid such problems, then bravo, you've done something I couldn't.

I thought the MAKO was great! I loved driving around planets (and tumbling down steep mountain sides) searching for hidden treasures. It was great fun I thought! Never understood all the MAKO hate myself, either.
Then again, I have been told that I am insane and masochistic so... eh!

Between this and your Super Meat Boy fiasco, Im kind of thinking maybe you just like long boring trods where there's no real danger. You and my grandpa. Birds of a feather. Im fascinated that something like the mako bullshit could exist in such a successful game. That goes double for the probing. That's like some EVE online-level obtuse excersize in voluntary manual labor, but with no payoff. Here, do something menial. Its good because there's so much of it.

I loved the Mako too, exploring large swaths of land on alien planets was a blast. Not to mention, driving the Mako was basically optional except for about all of 5 minutes in the original Mass Effect. It was also easy enough to handle (at least on the PC version). Have no idea what all the complaints are about.

There were lots of mountains and hill on the planets and if you are driving up one on the Mako then it essentially makes it impossible to kill people because the turret/cannon shoots straight, making awful combat.

The Mako never really bothered me, I could take it or leave it. Then I used it on the PC and thought I understood the hate...but apparantly people think the Mako controls better on the PC, I thought it controlled like utter garbage compared to the 360, myself.

While I can understand the Mako not being a particularly popular facet of Mass Effect, it's basically become the cool internets trend to preface anything you say about Mass Effect with "The Mako fucking sucked", its been blown out of proportion somewhat.

All the people who complain about mining never bothered to play a second playthrough (where you get 50k of each resource, basically making Mining unnecessary) or one after they patched it to make it take like a minute. Resource scanning is passively bad. The Mako is actively bad.

At least with the Mako I felt like I was doing something. The mining is so tedious and boring. Plus I kinda enjoyed the mako mining. Sure you couldn't shoot down, but you can rocket boost up ward and then land a shot. And scaling 90 degree walls was a bit of a chore but i liked it. I was disappointed by the streamlining of me2. but that does not detract enough from making it my 2010 game of the year.  I hope in me3 they do bring back some of the exploration stuff. it made the universe feel bigger.

The MAKO was fine on planet exploration where you could strafe bases or snipe towers though marking what terrain was passable and what wasn't would have gone a long way..  It sucked in any of the on rails story missions where you couldn't steer and basically had to use the jump jets to dodge rocket fire.
