    Yes, Master Chief is one of the most stale and uninteresting characters I've ever seen in a video game. I also think the whole Halo plot line is absolutely idiotic and unoriginal. Flame away.

    And that is his appeal. Making him seem only mildly interesting is what immerses the character into the story. Having a playable protagonist with a colorful, vibrant personality provides for a sort of disconnect to the story for the player. Having Master Chief just be a silent-type character makes it all the easier for the player to invent his personality, and thus step into his MJOLNIR boots.
    I've always liked Master Chief (much more after I read Fall of Reach) and I would like to see him in more games. I could liken him to the character in your avatar- like Snake, he is a born soldier; he follows orders, he excels in combat and if it came to it, would be more than willing to lay down his life to accomplish his mission.
