Final Boss Character in the Super Smash Bros. Classic Modes. The manifestation of the creative spirit.

Overview

Master Hand is a large disembodied hand that serves as a boss in both the Kirby and Super Smash Bros. franchises. He is usually seen with his counterpart, Crazy Hand, although he has appeared without Crazy Hand as well. Master Hand attacks with a wide variety of attacks, from physically barraging the player with attacks, to magically assaulting the player with a wide range of missiles, fire, lasers, and more.

In Kirby and the Amazing Mirror, Master Hand and Crazy Hand make an appearance in the level Candy Constellation. Master Hand later appears sans Crazy Hand as a miniboss (after being swallowed by Kirby, Kirby gets the Smash ability).

In Super Smash Bros., Master Hand is portrayed as the creator of the Super Smash Bros. world. He also appears several times in-game. He is the final boss of the single-player game. Master Hand differs from other characters in that, instead of gathering more damage as the battle goes on, he has a set amount of hit points (300) that must be depleted by repeatedly attacking.

Master Hand's role in Super Smash Bros. Melee is very similar to his role in the original Super Smash Bros. He serves as the boss of the single-player Classic mode. Despite the fact that he has a few different moves, and his hit points are altered depending on the difficulty (while in the original, the hit points were set at 300 no matter what), he is largely the same. Super Smash Bros. Melee also saw the introduction of Crazy Hand, who would appear on Hard and Very Hard in the single-player Classic mode. Of note is the fact that one sound in the sound test announces Master Hand's name in the same form that other characters are announced, which has caused fans to speculate about the possibility that Master Hand was planned to be included as a playable character.

Master Hand reprises his role of being a boss in the single-player Classic mode in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, however he only appears in this game if certain conditions are met. Master Hand also plays a prominent role in the Subspace Emissary. At first, it appears as though he is behind all of the well-coordinated attacks on the main characters of the game, but in the end it is revealed that Master Hand is merely a puppet of Tabuu. Ganondorf mistakenly frees Master Hand from Tabuu, but Master Hand is also defeated at the hands of Tabuu.

Did You Know?

Did you know that in all 3 Super Smash Bros. games, Master Hand's voice is the same as the announcer. This is true for Smash Bros. fans. Here are the voice actors:
  • Original: Jeff Manning
  • Melee: Dean Harrington
  • Brawl: Pat Cashman
